we had one of those as our wedding car
after 50+ years i still like the car

yes studs and Pies made a good combination
the impact gun should be up to 330lbft but like the owner the batteries are getting stuffed
so two old gits on the breaker bar and not a song between them

at least its not a weekly or monthly job just a now and again in the life of classics
would a plated stud work better ?? so long as its not hydrogen enbrittled
I was surprised the mk2 head we took off last week did not have the slotted thread to save hydraulicing the block .
but as the head has been off previously maybe low quality aftermarket studs got refiited
small but very important design .
or was it only the mk1 /3/8" studs that had the slot ????

many years back i had a Mk1 2000 jacked off the deck with a tube in a port and not a murmur from the offending stud so with a small gap did as you have cut through the stud
the threaded remains undid with fingers the sledge hammer needed to slog the stud out the head
Have just rebuilt a Mk2 head and all studs came out with our extractor chuck
and there were signs on the head face that a stud had been sawn in its previous life a long time ago .
so stud cutting is not as rare as you might think ha !

in steves online vangaurd1 2 and renown there are few clues but cam sprocket and dizzy say 5/16" +1/2" AF spanner
and 1/4" +7/16"AF spanner so engine looks predominantly unified

just note the replacement tanks made by Fichetts don't have the drain spout ( good) are only herald sized
and don't have the silly reserve lever feature .
so on a vitesse you gain a few inches boot width for the deck chair .
the reduce range is of little consequence to most of us

you cant change the bob weights in a delco without mending to destruction
you have to buy the assembly and change the whole spindle assy.
you can replace the springs
and is the vac unit settings same/similar between mk3 mkIV whilst this is a economy device the amount of advance it gives is quite critical
(sorry ive not looked at the data in the WSM )
and testing data needs a careful read as its often done decelerating or you again get it all very wrong

about the only possible is the distributor doctor
but there is WHY without a test rig you will be playing a guessing game and a chance to wreck your pistons
if you have no experience in this its is seriously best left alone to triumph specifications .
its relatively easy to change centrifugal weights on a lucas but impossible if its a delco
changing springs is simpler but you need to have the correct data to know what you are trying to achieve
i would find something else to worry about

As for that foam and folded plate to seal the drain plug hole in the body which bright spark
makes you wonder if that monstrosity was to allow a bigger hole to enable fitting/removal
as the plate and foam have liitle to offer in sensible design

if the rear toe is not around zero then as you move the /\ of the tyres/wheels will either try to converge or separate
hence why the camber climbs or reduces depending on toe in/toe out /backwards/forwards
its a common problem with a swing axle arrangement less obvious with a double wishbone .
the idea of loading is to get the suspension in its average road running height unladen will give you a error unless the data specifically says unladen .
a lowering block will give you a better appearance and less \-/ camber it has no effect on toe but any change in suspension needs the toe resetting as a matter of coarse.as one change willl affect all the other setting .
so you need to do both add a block and measure the toe , two bits of timber and a tape measure + a spare pair of hands

well from my background its a No its just a waste of fuel and does nothing apart from leaving the cylinders charged with petrol to wash the oil from the bores

as this camber changes when you drive its down to incorrect rear wheel Toe
have a read of this link there are cheap tools about to make it easy but you can do a lot with simple diy
you dont need lasers or 4 wheel alignment +costs to correct your problem
if you want to reduce the neg camber then fit a lowering block between spring and diff available from manyAlloy Diff Spacers : Canley Classics
the wsm data for Vitesse does state 150lbs on EACH seat to set the static ride height so get rent a crowd round or a
project needing a few bags of sand .
doing it unladen will not get the correct result

dont need to disconnect or remove just loosen

you can balance the throttles mechanically without any special tools , as was done at the factory in the day
loosen one of the coupling clamps
back off the idle screw and turn in to just !!! touch the casting wind it in 1.5 turns
do this on both then retighten the coupling clamp
if the idle is too fast back off both screws equal amounts
this just sets both throttle plates in the same basic position
if you noticed a small drop in idle with filters on then its a a little weak
really all you need to do with the jet adjuster is turn it to get the best fastest idle
somewhere between sputter being weak and wooly going too rich
you ears will tell you

so we change the/any adjustment is to suit variations in wishbone/chassis positions
as on rotaflex the toe is adjusted by shims under the inboard pivot brackets ???
and that would change the link lengths a bit
does that work ?
