  1. Just checked the carb pistons they move freely and drop with a clunk . The pistons do need a clean though. There is evidence of the rear carb flooding lots of crud in the filter before the carbs Paul
  2. Oil pressure - start up 75psi settling down to 50 psi at 3,000 revs in OD and idle is about 20 psi if that helps in diagnosis Paul
  3. Thanks for all the replies . Neg wire from coil goes to distributor The plugs were cleaned before yesterdays trip of 180 miles . Pic taken this morning . The lowest one is cyl 1 As I have spare set will change anyway Oil consumption is high 1 litre approx on 450 miles . Tootling around at home oil consumption is next to nothing . Could this be the underlying issue ? I get no rumbles on start up. Thanks for all your help Paul
  4. I haven’t had reason to check levels . When I purchased the car in 2016 I had the dreaded slivers and flooding , leaking gaskets , choke leaks . They are CDSE’s which were “reconditioned” though the only good bit was they were shiny and bright and supplied with 1 bent jet , different jet heights , and the float covers weren’t flat as they had been over cleaned , and when I eventually sorted the carbs I left well alone . I will check the sliding piston action tomorrow and if ok will leave until I get back on Weds as don’t want to jinx the journey back . I am running a Huco which has been in place for at least 3 years now and was installed as the mechanical pump was constantly playing up plus I find the engine easier to start with the Huco and the reassuring tic tic tic . When left for weeks she will start on second tug and when warm it’s every time Paul
  5. Yes this is new though it could have been progressive over the last year . In Suffolk we don’t have hills . The Accuspark has been in place for 4 years Paul

  7. I’ll remove the plugs tomorrow and photo them for opinion . They were cleaned yesterday and did about 180 miles today Paul
  8. I’ve travelled up to the Wirral from Suffolk in my Vitesse mk2. no issues and so far 400 miles ( went on Walled Towns Run today which takes in North Wales ) . Going up a crawler land , very steep hill on A55 Vitesse didn’t like it at all and as the pressure hit with the incline and she started to miss so had to drop to 2nd to get up . I’ve done this hill before with no real issues . Also noticed she slows down a lot on hills. What are the possible causes ? I’ve got a spare set of plugs so will try them . Ignition is accuspark . I cleaned the plugs yesterday and the colour is ok maybe a tad rich though some of the plugs were oily and one of the gaps was bunged up with carbon . It’s as though I wasn’t running on all 6 Paul
  9. Found the problem gearbox switch terminal loose . Oh how I love removing the gearbox cover 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 Paul

  11. No discernible click . I think it’s the wiring under the gearbox cover which has just been put back after new clutch slave . Before if take off the cover again tested the fuse which is a blade and only feeds the overdrive . That’s ok next is to check the output of the relay which is the original style . Not sure which one is the feed to the terminal in and terminal out and lastly terminal switch . The pic shows the wiring .

  13. I had similar issues with fitting / sealing my gearbox cover in my Vitesse . I made hardboard gaskets to fit the gearbox cover and another for the floor and the firewall . I held these in place with sealant and then fitted rivnuts . One one gasket I glued a section of inner tube . The hardboard gaskets were oversize as my fibreglass gearbox cover didn’t fit . Paul

  16. I had issues with flooding on my Vitesse changed the jets , full of slivers . Added Huco and fuel filter close to Cdse’s . So far working fine . I even have a modified spanner for removing the carbs , got the timing down to less than 20 mins for removal and strip down Paul

  21. I’ve used stainless screws instead of rivets on my Vitesse They look ok and the sections easily removed Paul
  22. Yes Pete . Instant read shows extremes and hence worry factor kicks in . I’ve got a spare temp gauge . Do I need a different sender and cable to connect Paul sender pic
  23. The fan is a yellow plastic 6 fin . The temp rises to 90, the thermostat opens and the temp drops to 80 and cycle starts again . My gauge is mechanical so no electrics that’s why I see the range . I can go 200 plus miles in a session and everything is ok, until I hit a traffic jam Paul
  24. I fear going into traffic jams with my mk 2 Vitesse as the mechanical temp gauge will climb to over 100 and at times up to 115 especially on a hot day and having driven for a few hrs . I have the standard fan fitted . I’ve flushed the engine and have a new radiator, heater matrix and heater diverter mechanical switch . All hoses are new with a recent conversion to silicone . Once on the move the guage quickly drops back to 85 to 90 range. Would having an electric fan improve cooling in traffic jams ? Paul
