  1. Took the Vitesse on the same run as yesterday and apart from a clicking which seemed to come from the speedo or tachometer all is fine . After 5 mins the clicking stopped . So what happened yesterday could have been the speedo / tachometer cables . Moral of the story is to drive more regularly to keep everything ticking over and don’t park in gear . At least I didn’t get round to removing the dreaded gearbox cover yet again . Many thanks for all your input , it’s appreciated and pretty sure there aren’t many forums like this when advice flows in like yesterday . THANK YOU 😊 Paul
  2. Don’t think so , the clatter is mechanical like metal touching metal . In the past I’ve had timing / lack of power issues which have been sorted . I’ll be posting a recording of the noise to help identify the issue as soon as possible Paul
  3. Hi Iana , last time I did one was a couple of years ago and all in the 160 to 168 range Paul
  4. Thanks Dave , before I remove the cover I’ll test again and record the noise clatter Paul
  5. Hi Johny don’t think axle stands will prove anything . It’s under load when the clatter starts , remove the load and no clatter . I’ll take off the cover and test again . We’re away on Sunday for a couple of weeks so not sure if I’ll have time to test drive Many thanks to all for your input and advice , I’ll report back with my findings Paul
  6. Hi Iain pretty sure it was ok in third accelerating , issue seems to happen when it’s under load ie 4th haven’t been able to check overdrive yet . Will remove the cover and test drive again Paul
  7. Hi Pete , treated gently there’s no issue at all , 1 2 and 3 goes through the box as normal , go into 4th no problem, cruise at 30 mph no problem , then foot down and accelerate that’s when the clatter starts , take foot off accelerator or dip clutch , clatter stops Paul
  8. Hi Iain . Car has been in the garage for last 3 months . Stuck clutch yesterday , freed off and left to idle for 10 mins . Today was first run since freeing the clutch Paul
  9. Hi Pete . Fan fixing bolts , do I just check if they are tight ? Endfloat check . This is inserting smallish wrecker bar to see what movement there is ? Checking the throw out lever with the cover off makes good sense Was my clutch freeing off method wrong ? Paul
  10. Hi Iain thanks , no driveline vibration Paul
  11. Thanks Dave . I’ll remove the cover and inspect . If the release fork is the issue what would I find ? Paul
  12. Hi Iain . Recon Overdrive box added about 3k ago by Manvers Triumph . Clive Manvers said clutch gear was fine and didn’t need replacing Paul
  13. Hi Nigel clatter coming from gearbox though can never be sure , dip the clutch and clatter stops . Was wondering if I’d done in a Uj on the prop with the jolt Paul
  14. Hi Iain . Standard box though reconditioned . First time for this noise . Will try and drive through the noise and see what happens Paul
  15. Hi. Just giving my Vitesse some fresh air , and a clattering noise as if something is loose . Only comes on under load so at 30 mph in 4th all ok , open her up and clattering starts , slow down and the noise stops Only thing that has happened is the clutch was stuck on , one day I will learn to leave it out of gear . To release I put the car in reverse ( I drive into my garage ) and started the engine and it freed almost straight away . Could I have done any damage ? Paul
  16. I watched s DHL logistics programme on Channel 5 the other day and they were proud of the fact that the smoked salmon process involved some 5,500 air miles from catching the salmon processing and final delivery to the customer on time Paul
  17. I’ve recut the threads , first time I’ve ever used a tap n die set [Xmas pressy] I’ve tested the new bolts without the door and pretty sure they will be ok . Door going back on now probably with some grunting and swearing Thanks for all input - appreciated Paul
  18. Thanks Pete , what size are the current bolts ? When you say M8 1.25 is this for the screwed up thread Paul
  19. Refitting the passenger door on my mk2 Vitesse . The fixing bolts are in a poor state and the thread has stripped on one of the sections on the retaining plate. Looking at the plate Is it too far for a thread recut or what size do I need to replace with . I’ve purchased replacement bolts but other than 3/8 don’t know what the full spec is . I know this was discussed on the forum recently but couldn’t find the info Paul

Newbie ?s Does +40 mean the bores would need boring to plus 40 also plus 40 pistons . Or are all pistons the same size ? Paul

  23. Classicline will accept TSSC valuations but asked me for supporting photos . Plus what was said over the phone didn’t materialise . Took ages and side letters to get right . Can’t recommend them . Went to PJ at a higher price Paul
