  1. Hi all Spitfire IV I am running on standard rims and Continental 155 x 13 tyres. The recommended pressures seem a bit low what should I be running on? thanks in advance
  2. Thanks for the advice Pete. I got some thicker .0645 circlips from Rarebits, fitted them with the aid of a G-clamp and a small socket (on the car) Noise now disappeared
  3. Hi all Spitfire 1500 Is it possible to remove the cam and followers without removing the cylinder head? I was wondering if it was possible to remove the sump and work from underneath the car thanks
  4. I Have purchased heavy duty Hardy spicer UJ's from Canley classic's No problems, next day delivery, reasonable prices, quality products. excellent customer service!!
  5. Hi Webbo It sounds like the release bearing, I have had this problem with new bearings. Did you have this noise before you changed the clutch? There is always some whirriing noise from the gearbox when in neutral with the engine running Hope this helps
  6. Don't go for cheap, engine parts are expensive you pay for what you get. It's cheap for a reason! I have just spent nearly £700 on a recon head for my 6 cylinder 2.5, this was me doing all the fitting ect Jigsaw are good or a club exchange engine would be good. Hope this helps
  7. Hi all Spitfire rear end noises Just fitted new heavy duty uj's to both drive shafts, with thicker circlips but I still hear clonking noise on over run. How tight must the uj's be? Must they be so tight you can not move them? Have ruled out diff as just reconditioned by Mike Papworth. Any advise gratefully received
  8. Got my originals powder coated, they look great! cost about £200 A word of warning make sure you remove the coating where the wheel nuts seat or they will undo, they did on mine. It is because there is not enough friction on the powder coating, I think!

    Core plugs

Hi all When fitting core plugs should I use gasket sealant or just fit them dry? thank you
  10. I have fitted a 11" right hand arm and a 12" left hand both cranked. Wipers now sweep complete area, no gap in the middle. Hope this helps someone!!
  11. Now road tested the car, the diff is virtually silent!!! GREAT!!!! Thanks Mike!!
  12. Hi I would earth the steering column temporally with a jump lead or similar then try the horn. In my experience it is always a earthing problem. You could replace the lower steering column joint with one with no rubber joints from Rarebits or from a triumph 2000. Hope this helps good luck!
  13. Update Had diff rebuilt by Mike Papworth. He found original old or wrong bearings were still fitted also c/w and pinion not set up correctly. All now good, although I haven't tried it yet as cylinder head is off at present!
  14. Hi all I purchased a pair of TeX wipers from another supplier and they were exactly the same as the video. Rubbish! Look good but don't do the job! I fitted some wiper refills on the tex blades which was an improvement, but they are not as good as the Bosch. The Bosch blades are the best I have seen. Cheers
  15. Hi all Having trouble getting hold of ep90 gl4 oil Is 80/90 OK to use in a diff? A guy in halfords said it is fine. Thank you
  16. I have now removed the servo. I only fitted it as it came with the car! All now well with brakes. I agree with John, spitfires (and heralds) don't need servos. thanks for the help
  17. Hi all I have a oil leak on my spitfire 1500cc engine, it is at the rear on the corner near the engine number. Oil runs down over the gearbox bell housing. I am fairly sure it is on the head gasket, Is this a common place for a leak? Will gasket sealant around the oilway and a new head gasket cure it? I do not want to take the head off for nothing!! thank you
  18. Hello The leak could be on the windscreen frame between the rain gutter channel and the frame, it only takes a pin hole. It is a rust and moisture trap. You could try sealing it with windscreen sealant or better still remove the drainage channel repair the windscreen frame and pop rivet a new channel on the plenty of seam sealer. (As on Stag's) You won't see the rivets when all the rubber seals are fitted. Hope this helps!
  19. Hello David if your matrix is not leaking, but blocked I unblocked mine with radiator central heating descaler. I removed the matrix and filled it with descaler and left it to stand for a couple days. It worked well after this treatment. Hope this helps
  20. Hi Sounds like it could be something breaking down with the heat. Could be the rotor arm (try a new red one from the club shop) there are issues with new lucas ones. I would try this first. Could be spark plugs. Points and condensor, again issues with new condensors. Accuspark electronic ignition kits are available on ebay for about £30. I have fitted these to my cars and have been very pleased with the results. If there is petrol in the carb float chambers when it stops then I would say it is a ignition problem. Hope this helps
  21. Hi all I am soon to remove the head off my 1500cc spitfire can anyone recommend any improvements while it is off. Polishing ports ect?? I will be converting to unleaded. thank you
  22. Hi all Has anyone had experience of dismantling a Girling brake servo (as fitted to my spitfire). It has been making the brakes stick on after application and not has not assisted the braking at all I have removed it, all seems good as new inside but I don't know what to look for. The servo although about 12 years old has only covered about 1000 miles. Any help gratefully received
