  5. The wire was moulded in the clamp. Yes earth wire is perfect. The positive lead has been dodgy for a while, probably deterating gradually without me noticing. Cheers
  6. Hi all Had a good check on Saturday. I decided fix the slightly dodgy connection to the positive battery clamp.(see picture)Took the car for a good 60 mile run lots of hills ect, no problems at all. Could this have caused the jolt/missfire? thanks
  7. Hi Pete Thanks for the ideas. I will check these items at the weekend. I did put £20 worth of 95 unleaded before the jolt it would have been mixed with the super unleaded already in the tank, do you think this could make a difference? Thanks Paul

  12. Hi all Had the 2500 saloon out the weekend all running very well. Then there was single missfire, or more like a large jolt! Then a couple seconds later the same again. The next 40 mile no problems at all just running normally. Any ideas what it could be? I have fitted the following new parts NGK plugs, HT leads, Pertronix electronic ignition, rebuilt distributor, red rotor arm,and dist cap.

  14. Hi all Can an overdrive slip when disengaged? I am getting clutch slip when pulling away hard and uphill, the clutch is 3 years old but overdrive has not been touched for about 20 years. I don't want to change the wrong parts! thank you in advance Paul
  15. Wayne I had a noisy different in my spitfire I tried moly slip, it didn't make any difference at all! Hope this helps Cheers
  16. Hi Best to fit below the grill so not to restrict air flow though the radiator. I wouldn't use the holes drilled in the lower edge of the bumper. Hope this helps Cheers Paul
  17. Hi Your bonnet looks to close to the door. You can adjust fore and after adjustment on the hinges at the front. I would spray plenty of release fluid/oil for a few days before attempting to release the hinge bolts. The bolts are on a elongated slider type of bracket. It can be a time consuming job but the gap between the door and bonnet is normally about a quarter of an inch Hope this helps Cheers Paul
  18. Fitting an overdrive is excellent conversion. I did on my 1360 estate. I would never have a car without it now. I have a solid herald overdrive propshaft if you are interested. It has new uj's fitted, it came from my estate so I know it is good. cheers Paul
  19. I have cleaned out a heater matrix with central heating cleaner. Remove from the heater box and leave to soak for a day then give it a good blast of water with a hosepipe, worked a treat!
  20. Hi I would first check the wire to the sensor on the thermostat housing is connected and in good condition, then if no joy replace the sensor. Also check the connections on rear of gauge are tight and in good condition. If the thermostat is stuck shut the engine would overheat. If stuck open the car will never warm up. You could test this by removing and suspending with string in a boiling pan of water it should open. Hope this helps
  21. Hi Darren . I rang Dave Mac and they can supply a new prop ready to fit for £120 + vat, sounds like a good deal. They said it was not really worth repairing the Indian one Thanks for you help
  22. Pete Checked the top of the float where the tip of the needle touches and there is mark and may be a very small amount of wear. I have changed the float for a spare, hopefully cured the leak, but I will keep my eye on it Thanks for your help
  23. Thanks Pete I will check the float I have Viton tipped needle valves fitted already
  24. Hi all Just noticed a constant drip of fuel from the jet on my spitfire's SU front carb. The jet and needle are quite new. I have cleaned out the needle valve, anyone got any ideas why this is happening? thanks in advance
  25. Hi all After investiging a noise from the rear of my spitfire I have found the new propshaft I purchased 14 months ago is knackered. I knew there might be trouble when I saw made in India on the box! The sliding joint has play in it. Can anyone recommend a good repairer or is it scrap? Thanks
