  1. We have a very old fashioned garage near us - he still serves you! He has not and will not sell E10 as he has so many customers with garden machinery. E10 is death to mowers / strimmers etc.
  2. Early bird tickets with £20 discount now extended until end of March. See Courier and website.
  3. It's arrived! And it is good.

    Insurance

Delighted to see that Peter James Insurance are now offering a policy, looking identical to the TSSC exclusive one, to MX5 Club members. We have started a trend.
  5. From the odd tone of your response to me the other day Doug I'm not surprised. However nothing a good doctor couldn't cure surely!
  6. Have had an enquiry locally from a Mayflower owner who would like to join a local Triumph group. Along with the Renown there are not many of these around. Will obviously make him welcome. Any other Areas have these older models in their midst?
  7. Doug - what have you done to be banned? 😉 I understand there are problems with valuations as the form editing is not easily available to the person doing the valuations which could be linked to Bern's departure. Is this a widespread problem? If so, where are our IT experts. In the meantime huge thanks to Club staff and volunteers for holding it all together until new Shop person starts next month.

  9. Hope to meet up with you in the Summer. Let us know when and where you will be. sue@jassy.org.uk. Look at our Area events on the main website to see what we are up to.
  10. The Pub will be Xmas busy and so will we all tomorrow so no meeting planned. We will be back at the Star Inn at Liverton Wednesday 17 January and every third Wednesday after. Great pub. Lovely big level surfaced car park and great food.
  11. Welcome to the madhouse - and the Club. Lovely looking car. Find your local Area and enjoy.
  12. Slightly cautionary tale. Had Raptor colour matching protection applied to my Stag a year or two ago. Now finding it is peeling off and showing what appears to be residual dirt between it and clean metal. Was the underneath clean when it was applied - who knows! All very well looking good for a while but not impressed. Of course any coating can camouflage I appreciate. Seems this stuff dries hard and is therefore inflexible.
  13. Looking forward to meeting you and Alison on 7 January. Arrive around 2pm Lunch booked for 2.30pm
  14. Another time if you are visiting Liverton Josef - third Wednesday monthly.
  15. Should I book you in Graham? Meeting there 2pm for 2.30 lunch. Looking forward to seeing you.
  16. Hello Graham - as others have said, welcome to the Club! I am one of the Area Organisers for TSSC in Devon and a Torquay girl. I am sure we have met at some point when you were on the dark side. We are also members of TOWC. You will see in the Courier mag that we meet at the Star Inn at Liverton on the third Wednesday of the month, but not in December as the pub will understandably be busy. Looking forward to seeing you and that lovely car soon. I have not yet received recent new members' list do would like to welcome you on here. We have lots planned already for next year, starting with a lunch at the Smugglers at Dawlish on Sunday 7 January. Just let us know if you can come. Sue
  17. Fully understand the reasoning behind this year's increase in subs. All of us, including the Club, have much increased costs generally. Glad to see the option for Overseas members, which at last means that they will be able to get an electronic version far sooner than they could previously. That makes sense to me. As I understand it (vaguely!) there are still tax implications for only having a digital option for all, and we must of course remember that there are still a significant portion of our membership who would not access that. My other half for one always reads the paper version but I cannot for the life of me get him to read a digital mag! Appreciate the well worded notification from COM.
  18. Help Gurus - have had this from a member. Would appreciate your no doubt conflicting advice before I reply. "Do you have a view about how long we should keep the same tyres on our cars, please? On my Vitesse I have 4 175/70 R13 tyres and these were fitted in 2009 when the car had done about 30500 miles. The mileage at the moment is 33128 - a mere 2500 + miles done since that time. Years ago when we had these cars , tyres wore out because of use after about 12, 000 miles or so but I am sure that with very few miles done each year, tyre properties deteriorate and after nearly 15 years, tyres may not even be safe - even with good tread on them which I have. Can I please have your views - I am never seen any article on this subject in a Courier magazine." My thoughts are that the tyres are well overdue a change despite the low mileage driven. 14 year old tyres are bound to have degraded even if kept in a dark garage? Thanks! Sue
  19. Some of you will have heard the sad news that Ian (Del) Lines has passed away a couple of days ago. Del had been in a home in Weston super Mare for some years suffering from dementia. Prior to that, as many will know, in the 70s he got into big trouble with BL as he was buying 2000 estate shells and putting Stag engines in them - marketing them as Stag Estates. Many of these cars still survive and are sought after. He ran Atlantic Garage in WsM for some years and looked after many Stags from the South West. He had a colourful life, taking him abroad to Spain and Mallorca at times. In addition to the work with Stags, he rallied with some success, using Rover SD1s, one of which had the registration SYB 1L - his mother's name. His registration DEL 33 is now reunited with one of his Stag Estates. RIP to a most interesting and at times controversial character.
  20. Makes sense Colin - I cannot work out why he let the 'garage' have the V5 - seems odd to me.
  21. Have been told of a dodgy sounding deal(er) in Cornwall Story is someone we know, of course not a member, has a Stag. Had it in a cheapo garage / workshop somewhere in Cornwall whilst he was working on it. He allowed the proprietor to have the V5 etc – daft I know. It appears this guy has unofficially told people the car may be available and has ‘sold’ it to a guy . He paid £500 deposit by bankers draft but has paid no more and was allowed without the owner’s permission to remove the car and have the V5. He now has the car and has not paid any further monies. The owner has a crime reference number and Police apparently knew straight away where to go to this man’s residence where the car could be seen. He denied all knowledge of fraudulent activity and the Police have apparently said they have closed the case. Apparently this man is well known for this sort of activity and I wondered if anyone have any knowledge?? No named mentioned as could go to court at some stage. The owner has alerted DVLA who have said the car is still in his name and have hot marked it in case of anything happening. My guess is that he will dismantle and flog the parts but any ideas welcome.
  22. I've been sent this by a friend - Emergency Bonnet Release - sure will be of use to some. Perhaps other Stag owners would benefit from the following info and pics. 1) Existing bracket will require an extra hole drilled out - note there is one unused hole which needs to be also used. Steel rod made up threaded one end for fixing to existing bracket - top section cut out and tapped for steel cable and lock off - extra back up for final peace of mind security. 2) Bracket made up, mimics passenger side = handle release. Pictures below confirms detail above. Note: SOC supply the sleeved steel cable only - all other elements must be made separately.
  23. Next Devon Club Night is this Wednesday 16 August at the Star Inn - why not come along and meet us if you are in the area? TQ12 6EZ just off the A38 Drumbridges roundabout near Newton Abbot.
  24. Welcome - hope you find that elusive 13/60 shortly. The next North Devon Area meeting will be Thursday 7 September at the Crealock Arms at Littleham. Great pub, good food and nice crowd.
