    Mechanics Vice

Sorry as for the material - Purchased a length of Ground Flat Stock with similar dimensions. Bolts were a complete buggar to get out though - Anyone tried using heat to remove a bolt from a vice.... Aidan

    Mechanics Vice

Finally finished making these this evening. As always had to buy all the right bits to do it but still a lot cheaper than buying them even if I could have got hold of the right ones! Aidan
  4. Paddocks have free ecconmy shipping over ten pounds Not much difference but every little helps Aidan
  5. I was advised not to re-use the seal but new ones are cheap Aidan
  6. HA Confused me again - Two nuts? until I just looked at the parts diagram! - I am pretty sure mine has just got a nylock nut on and not two separate ones! So No:64 is the thing I should be investigating then Thx
  7. Thanks Pete, Light bulb moment on the "Cones", Now I know what's being talked about, the cones I replaced about six months ago to poly ones as the bonnet was not sitting correctly aligned. Its probably not this then as the noise was there before and after the change - but I will have a play bouncing on the bonnet to see if I can replicate the sound. As BEn says though, another pair of ears from the club may well be the route to finding the source I will take a look at the bush, If I remove the top centre bolt can I replace from there if I jack up the car or do I need to strip the suspension down? I was going to do this in nthe winter as my next project as allthe bushes are pretty old in the front suspension - possibly original or at least from the 1980's! Aidan
  8. Pete I will check that out. If it's not straight what's the solution? Will anything have been damaged? Ben Sorry can you give me some more direction on this. Where abouts are these cones? Thx Aidan
  9. Oh. And it's only on the nearside of the car not offside Aidan
  10. Spellcheck apologies on that - hopefully it still makes sense. ???? ????
  11. Hi Pete It's so quick it would be almost impossible to catch As sad it's almost intermittent in when it happens but usually due to a country road pot hole. Not a massive hole but sometimes where the tarmac has dipped into the verge. A definite scrapping sound Could be rubber on metal rubber on tarmac or even metal on metal if it was coated in something I just can't seem to find the consultant scratch or worn area Aidan
  12. Hi Ben That is certainly possible - How would I tell though? Can you point me in the right direction? Thx Aidan
  13. Hi Colin - I will check this out but I was running on 165/80 tyres on 5J minilites and still had the problem then - changed to 175/70 to see if that helped - but no change. I guess it is possible the car is somehow bottoming out and the spring is tired, I think the noise is from the front but my wife thinks its from the rear !! I can't / haven't any rubbing on the tyre side walls Doug UJ's checked out a little while ago by Mike Papworth - and one half shaft replaced at that time - about a year ago - The sound issue was there before and still there now. plus its not constant. No noise at all zipping down the A1 for instance Aidan
  14. I don't have mud flaps bon the car. ???? ????
  15. I am still trying to identify a noise made by my GT6. I can only describe it as a grasping sound something like mud flaps grounding on tarmac It only occurs at over thirty on bumpy roads and slightly on right hand corners. It's worse when two people are in the car I thought it was the front nearsde tyre touching the bulkhead but this has proved not to be the case. I cannot find any underneath bodywork rubbing so I'm a bit lost on this one Has anyone had similar and found the reason and a solutin? Thx Aidan
  16. Doug Silicon fluid is whole other debate ! Aidan
  17. It's not too difficult to do. Just follow the manual I would change both sides though not just the one. The cylinders are not too expensive plus replace the rubber covers and shims that holding them in Aidan
  18. It will be interesting to see if it's solid state or the original type Mine was not described as solid state but turned out to be. Mi e gives a very stable voltage output the original type does move up and down a little Aidan
  19. ????. Quite right Doug, easy if you remove the speedometer though!! Aidan
  20. The ones sold by paddocks look the same as the originals and are a straight swap and are actually solid state. Easy to swap and all the solid state advantages Aidan
  21. But I'd call them to check as theres no picture Aidan
  22. Believe Paddocks do to JPG914/2 Aidan
