  1. Hi From the above then - Is it better to keep or remove the engine valances to have a better flow of air and therefore a cooler engine? Is this why most cars don't have them any more? Thx
  2. OK Thanks - Maybe I'm being far too picky for a 47 year old The car that is !
  3. Hi all Starting to pick up on small things with the car now ! I have noticed that the distance between the front wheel arch and the tyre is slightly less on the drivers side (5mm or so). Looking at where the front body assembly is bolted to the chassis on either side - its not in the same position (See attached Pics) Should it be aligned to the chassis so the top does not show? The bonnet gap at the top is also slightly different from the near to the offside as well so I am asssuming I have a straight chassis here Offside : Nearside: The top picture is unfortunately at a slight angle, the black frame in front of the red body is actually the bottom of the frame section, it is aligned to the frame Which is the right position? Thanks
  4. Mike. Do you have details of your guy in the Midlands? Thanks
  5. Hi All Wanted thoughts and experiences of getting a webasto sunroof fitted - from Good to a Bad idea to buying and fitting please. Worth getting done professionally? My GT6 already stays reasonably cool as I fitted reflective insulation to a replacement gearbox G/F tunnel Cheers
  6. Hi. I'd buy a couple of crocodile clips and connect to the battery. Why risk the possibility of damaging the car wiring?
  7. I swapped over to spin on this year in fact only a month or so ago - I think it was Wheeler dealers on TV or some similar program (Wife hates me for watching them all ) They suggested adding oil to the filter before screwing it on, so I did and had no problems at start up. I know that's not always possible but mine is at 40 degrees so I could! Maybe that'll solve the problem the next time! Or as Pete say's maybe she or he is just saying BOO!

  13. If you go on the Super-flex website, they have a video on the reasons why they believe they are better - Obviously this is to sell their product but it does make some good points about their machining of the bushes post the mold. It going to be my winter project 15/16 so let me know how you get on! Think its on YouTube as well
  14. Hi Yes they are Red leather, and The lady who did them for me had a choice of reds as well as many other colours. I have her details at home so will add them tonight or tomorrow as a few people have asked. I supplied her with the foam set as they had worn out to - Cost was £750.00 but she does them from scratch - so a proper job as they say! Details to follow
  15. I had mine done by an independent trimmer / upholsterer in the Stafford area - similar price to Rimmers seat cover kit - Let me know if you want the details
  16. Hi. Well the block drain definately is!..BLOCKED. tried everything I can think of but run out of ideas. Anyway got 5.5 litres in so I don't think that's too bad. I will have to see if there's improvement in the temperature in slow moving traffic. Got lots of brown gravy out so with a bit of luck it should be better.
  17. Thanks - Drained today and got 4.5 liters out as I was expecting, and have blown air through the heater matrix to ensure that it clear. I will have a look at the plug tomorrow, never actually seen it, but I have seen images so know to look under the manifold around the starter motor area - Will let you know if this is the missing two liters!!
  18. Can anyone confirm how many litres of water my cooling system should take? I can't find anything for the Mk1 - The handbook I have says 6.5 Litres - If that's right then I have been running two litres short but don't seem to have any further space to get any more fluid in! I can only find the capacity for Mk111's on the internet and I'm not sure that would be the same Thx
  19. Don't think anyone has mentioned it and just in case you were not aware, the dizzy number is on the outside case usually hiding opposite the battery. Mine was covered in black paint originally, useful to let them know the number if you are emailing.
  20. I'd concur with Pete Aldon are good quality
  21. What make electronic ignition do you have? I had exactly those symptoms when I first fitted electronic ignition. I purchase a cheap Accuspark system which was found to be the cause. From my investigations I have found that the cheap versions are fine for 4 cylinder cars and not good for six cylinder. My solution was just to buy and fit a quality system. A cheap way to check is to revert back to points and condenser for a short time to see if it solves the problem. They are always useful as a backup!
  22. Graphite is a good lubricant and you don't have to stand there for three hours scraping a pencil just ebay search for graphite powder - its pretty cheap!
  23. I don't know if this will be it but I had a similar issue - mine was two issues, I had a slow discharge through the starter solenoid which I replaced, plus the battery was knackered anyway, replaced that and no problems since plus I'm still on a dynamo! Aidan
