That’s much cheaper than anywhere else - but still out of stock like everywhere else. I wonder if they are actually still manufactured.
I’ll call leacys tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help.

Hi Colin. Yes, it’s the same as the Auto Electrical Spares switch in your post at the top of this thread.
Easy option - I’ll order one of them. 👍

Did the mk3 Gt6 use the same spit switch I wonder? I don’t have my parts manual handy. The spit switch in the pic is from a 1500. Mine is a Mk2 GT6

Threaded section looks to be the same length; it's the thickness that differs, but the thinner Spit version can be bulked out to fit a larger hole by using a rubber grommet.
Can't think of why, unless the terminals are in a different order - are they marked in any way, or can you test them?
I have a pic of the spit unit wired and it appears to be the same except the GT6 has a double green into one terminal. From a quick scan of wiring diagrams, I think the GT 2nd green wire feeds the motor where on a Spit the same connection on the motor travels directly from a different power source. So I don’t think that would make any difference.

Can anybody think why a spitfire switch may not work for a GT6 (same colour wires and terminal count) or did I buy a broken unit?

Wasn’t there an article in the courier where someone used a pressure switch that actually used the air pressure from the bellows to activate the switch. Very clever

Thanks both. I’ll get a pic.
Actually now I spread the search a bit I see this electric version is available from Paddocks (and others).

The original wiper / washer switch on my GT6 seems to be like hens teeth.
Mine has the metal body unlike the spitfire variety that has a plastic body. The pump works fine but I have lost the faster of the two speeds.
I bought a 2nd hand spit switch but it would not work (same number of terminals) and wired correctly (although the connectors themselves were different). Not sure if it was broken or something is different?
Anybody been able to use the spit switch successfully or ideas for an alternative please?
Many thanks for any advice.

Good result. Are you doing anything else while you have the box exposed? It looks in good condition but the list could include:
check all bolt tightness, inspect mounting rubbers, condition of gear lever linkage, oil level, change clutch fluid and sound proof cover...
Hi Johny. The whole car has been rebuilt from the ground up including replacing the chassis. My good friend Peter (otherwise known as Jade Mutley on YouTube) is doing the VAST majority of the work. If you search GT6 mk2 restoration on Google, the majority of videos showing are my car - which we are just now completing. 😁😁

Having swapped the chassis on my car and changing multiple suspension parts, wondering about front camber adjustment. I know how to do it but wondering if it’s one I should leave to professionals with optical equipment?
I was planning to set it up using a simple set square arrangement on the hubs.
Many thanks for any advice.

Yep, removed a washer and all working fine 👍
thanks for all the feedback

Thanks Colin.
Thr original part number is 127380 (now obsolete) in case anyone is reading this thread and wondering.
The actual switch which is Lucas is stamped 31849A 1470.

Thanks both. Tested the switch off the car and it works fine. It had 2 quite thick fibre washers. Thinking I’ll replace the two with one new one and some ptfe for good measure.
hope that cures it and it’s not what ever activates the switch in the g/box

Ah, I see Paddocks have it. 👍👍

Thanks both . Mine has horizontal terminals. The ones for sale are all vertical? Does this not foul the extension?

Hi all. A bit mystified! My reversing lights are working intermittently. It’s something to do with the selector or the switch as if I take it in and out of reverse gear enough times by the 10th time or so, they come on. I suspect the switch it a bit gunked up as the box has been idle for 15 years so will check.
BUT I can’t find the particular switch I have listed anywhere or shown in my parts manual or even the hole in the gearbox for it. The types sold my dealers mount on a separate bracket. Are they the same? See video.
All advice appreciated!!!
thanks.

Long shot but wondering if anyone has a weathershield / Britex vinyl sunroof / frame they would sell me, from a GT6.
Just finishing the restoration on my car (which had a sunroof). I had a guy restore mine but as most of the metal work was shot he used a doner from another car without telling me it was different. The gaps between the cross braces are wider leaving a large unsupported area at the back. Need the correct doner for him to sort it out 😩😩
anyone help?😬😬
much appreciated.

just seen this thread. nothing to add other than I've been running one of those since the 80's and never missed a beat.
Good to know. The conclusion to my story is that sadly the box that Roger kindly sold me actually had a different attachment for the lamp in the dizzy which could not be modified so I couldn’t use it. I had to resort to soldering my cable (last night by coincidence). The instructions show that the unit is compatible with 4 or 6 cylinder (just by changing the slotted disc in the dizzy) but only for compatible dizzys I guess. I presume the spit (from which it came) is a different distributor. 😩😩
The actual control unit looks identical and will be useful as a spare.
Anyway, hope to install the fixed unit at the weekend and start the rebuilt engine - exciting times 👍👍

I’ll check the depth of the canister just in case but pretty sure it’s the narrower version on mine from memory.

Ah, now it’s becoming clear. I raised the query because my Vitesse owner friend mentioned it when he saw the filter element. I guess like me he had no idea they were different between vitesse/GT6 - and I’d forgotten what the original looked like. Problem solved, thank you!
This forum really is an excellent resource. Thank you to all those who take the time to offer advice. Brilliant 👍👍👍👍👍

Indeed. If you are thinking of using Newton DON’T buy direct from Newton. All the major suppliers use them and are much cheaper.
For my GT6 I actually had covers made in Leather by a local upholsterer, who did a great job (as cheap as vinyl covers). We used Newton foams and found them to be overly padded compared to the original - which you may expect - but he struggled to make them fit the covers which he had made using the originals as templates.
