  1. Great Link Pete, I've read the notes on the Lucas Metering Unit operation 3 times, still can't suss it . Maybe I need to read it a few more times
  2. One thing to check is that your rear Trunnion Bushes haven't seized up? If they have this will prevent the correct operation of the suspension and this may be the problem. Merry Christmas!

Most of these Optimistic prices seem to be at Dealers, I know a lot of Good TR5's are up around the the £35-£40K Mark A lot of these cars have been for sale a long time, I often check the Car and Classic site and its only every so often a TR5 sells. I think your hoping it you think your going to get a Perfect TR5 for £20K John? The last few TR5 Restoration projects I've seen on E-Bay and at auction have sold around the £15K mark, although one really poor example did sell at under £5k, this was then re-advertised up around the £12K Mark though! I suppose cars always sell for what people are prepared to pay?
  4. The seat should lift off with a bit of gentle twisting and levering up? The Tonneau Press studs where Riveted on my convertible, I drilled these out and this released the seat back rest? Not sure if Rivets or Screws where standard?
  5. You want to nip to an Electrical Wholesaler or Screwfix and get some M3.5 Countersunk Electrical Switch/Socket screws and a box of M3.5 Nuts and washers too. This is what I used on my Vitesse Convertible and they are a perfect fit inside the hood poppers and BZP plated so will not rust Take a New Hood popper with you just to make sure they fit snuggly? I paid less than a Tenner for 100 Screws, nuts and washers. .
  6. The Globe badged ones are I believe off a Mk1 Triumph 2000. The 13/60 Models should have outer Trims as well as the hub caps I reckon, or where these an optional extra?
  7. I agree, the Diff is very securely mounted to the chassis, I've jacked my Vitesse up there before and had no problems? As stated before though never go under a car with just the Jack for support, Axle stands are a must and I always chock the Opposing wheels not being jacked up.
  8. If you remove the extension brackets and use the original Chassis mountings for the top shock location, with standard Vitesse MK1 type Dampers you should be fine I reckon? Gary
  9. The main reason I fitted Koni was to match the set I fitted to the front of my car. it was a bit of a Faff to get them to fit though? I did consider the Gaz ones and the TSSC do do them at a good price in the Kit. The important bit is the Open and Closed lengths, Open 296mm closed 218mm. If you get them any more than 218mm closed they will bottom out over pot holes and when 4 up?

Here's a link to what I did on the Club Triumph Site: http://www.club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl?m-1398031871/s-42/highlight-Koni/#num42 The Koni shocks I used are actually for the front of a classic Mini, part number 80-1717, do a search on the Internet, I got mine from a supplier in Leeds, Larkspeed I think, you have to do some modifications though. 1. Drill out the bottom shock bush to 1/2" diameter to suit the existing lower mounting stud/bolt. 2. Change the top shock bush to 2 x superflex SF0365P Top hat Bushes per side, you have to trim a bit off the length on each bush slightly and I Used a M22 (I think) Lock washer each side to get them the correct width to suit the Telescopic Brackets when using the original type Shouldered Bolt. 3. These Koni Shocks are adjustable, coming set on the softest setting, I set mine mid way and the car rode and handled well. I had to cut away the Lip slightly to get the Telescopic bracket to fit, if you've not fitted the Body yet then you won't have to do this if you fit the brackets before fitting the rear tub.   14. Just another sign of Classic Car prices spiraling out of control? It's a lovely car but at an unrealistic price I'm on the lookout for a Nice TR5, prices of those are getting unobtainable for most people, there's one on Car & Classic now for £59K When will the bubble burst?
  15. Like the Wolfrace wheels, very Period? 51/2J x 13 With 175/70 tyre is a good combo and will give you a bit more grip? Should fit Ok with the correct Offset, ET16 Is about right I reckon?

  17. 5.5J x 13 are also a popular size too, fitted with 175/70 x 13" Tyres gives a similar rolling radius to the original fitment 155 x 13" at the expense of slightly heavier steering though
  18. I got the Wheels C/W Special Nuts from the Stoneleigh Triumph show a few years ago off a Company called John Brown Wheels in the Midlands? If you can wait and attend one of the Larger Shows they often attend selling the Wheels at reduced prices . My wheels had special wheel nuts that accept a special male hexagon addaptor that fit inside the nut, you then fit a 11/16th AF Socket onto the Adaptor to loosen and tighten. I purchased some black plastic caps that fit in the open end of the special nuts to smarten up the appearance.
  19. I had a set of 5.5J x 13" ET16 Offset Dunlop D1 Replica wheels on my recently sold Vitesse had no problems with wheelarch fouling front or back with 175/70 Tyres. I did get slight type scub on the front bulkhead on the nearside when revesing on lock though
  20. Have a look at the adjacent post entitled Bond Spring for comments on the Courier spring?

According to the Spec sheet I've got from an old Courier Article the Courier Spring is rated at 552 lbs/Inch with 8 leaves at 0.313" thick, the Estate is 7 leaves same thickness but a 510 lbs/Inch rating. A standard Herald Saloon spring is 11 Leaves of 0.219" thickness and rated at 270 lbs/Inch, so you can see both the Estate and courier springs are far stiffer. I believe the Estate and Courier springs are of a flatter profile too, so less camber change I've heard people who have driven the Courier say it is the best handling Herald model of them all!
  22. Are you sure you have the correct Rotoflex spring? The GT6 Mk2 and early Mk3 with Rotoflex Suspension should have 6 Leaves according to a Data sheet I have. If you have the 11 Leaf Vitesse Mk2 Spring this could make is sit high and any other Swing Axle spring is not correct for Rotoflex suspension. Can you post a Picture?
  23. I would think Herald 13/60 if it's a 68? If you want to uprate for better handling go for one of the Canley Herald Swing spring conversions with the Thicker front Anti-roll bar? Or even better if you can find one a Courier rear spring
