  1. What about this very original One Owner Vitesse 2 Litre Convertible recently listed on E-Bay and the Car and Classic site https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185983902303?hash=item2b4d81225f:g:ttkAAOSwT4Fkruio Does anyone know the car? I'm very tempted to arrange a viewing (If its not already sold that is) but the car is miles away from me and I'm not the greatest fan of Conifer Green. Gary
  2. What About this? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi9-Nrl_I2AAxVk_7sIHbVaCC0QvOMEKAB6BAgbEAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.motor1.com%2Fnews%2F676838%2Ftriumph-makkina-electric-concept-car-debut%2F&usg=AOvVaw0iUQVsUjKjdOIg4Z0b7rYt&opi=89978449 I'm not sure if I like it or not. Gary
  3. Colin Conifer Green isn't one of my Favourite Triumph colours but it does go well with the Tan Interior. I think the dealer made a typo and is referring to the additional Sound deadening black bags fitted originally which often get lost or thrown away. One owner from new is very rare these days though, I can remember chatting to a guy at Stafford many moons ago who was in a Mk2 Vitesse Convertible that he had owned from new. Gary
  4. Hi All I just wondered if anyone knows this car https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1606897 I'm very tempted to go and have a look as I'm now on the look out for another Vitesse after selling my Sunbeam I have requested additional photo's of the Chassis and underside off the Dealer, it's a long way for me to travel though from Derbyshire to Hampshire. Regards Gary
  5. Hi Paul It does look a very nice and well restored car. Gary
  6. The same supplier (based in Malaysia I believe) makes similar Stainless steel bumpers to suit the Sunbeam Alpine/Tiger range and I have heard similar positive comments regarding the quality of the bumpers for these cars? Gary
  7. 65-70 lb/ft is correct for the Cylinder head nuts for the later engines with the larger Studs/Nuts, could this be the issue?
  8. Don hoods had the car in their Fitting Workshop for nearly a whole day to get it fitting without catching, I have no idea if it was removed and modified though but it was the original hood supplied by them. If you look closely at the sides on my old Vitesse it is still overlapping more than an original hood, but it didn't catch the tops of the Door windows when closing so I wasn't bothered by this One the the hardest things to eliminate is creases in the rear quarter lights on the Herald/Vitesse hoods, if you look at original press photo's when the cars where new you can see it can be done with the original Vinyl Hoods If you've purchased the Hood off Don Trimming I would call them and see what they say? Gary
  9. Phil This is the only Photo I can find showing the rear of the hood, but its from a distance so not really much help I'm afraid. Gary
  10. Hi Phil I'm afraid I sold the car way back in 2015? I know the top stainless trim fitted above the window is supposed to cover the seam/joint on the Original Vinyl hoods. With the lower one, yes I believe it is fitted above the edge seam. I will see if I have any more close up photo's but I don't think I have When I purchased the Hood my intention was to fit it myself with the help of a mate who owned several convertibles in the past and he'd done a couple of Vinyl hood swops previously, however we found the hood to have been manufactured too wide, the tops of the Door windows caught on the hood sides! I raised the issue with the Don Trimming Co. and they told me to book the car in with them and they sorted it for me FOC There are no additional restraints or Velcro fitted on my old Vitesse above the door windows, Velcro is a good idea and is fitted as standard to a number of cars including the 1960's Alpines/Tigers Gary
  11. Spotted your old car on a Facebook Post Pete, still looking good?🙂
  12. It really is in a bad way and surely only useful for spares? It's a later car (1975) and these tend to rot worse than the pre 1974 cars which used a better quality steel (So I've read) It would appear it's been left outside to the elements a long time which never helps. I owned a 1976 Pimento Stag between 1987 and 1994 and this had corrosion in some very strange area's
  13. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285349430662?hash=item427026c586:g:bi4AAOSwNn9kmJne Brave restoration anyone?
  14. Spotted this on the Car and Classic site, anyone want to go racing? https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1594230 Gary
  15. Hi Again Pete Great to meet you and your wife at Silverstone on Saturday I've never heard any instances of Drive shafts snapping on MK2 Vitesse models, you may be getting mixed up with the earlier Swing Axle cars, this can and does happen to these cars. I have heard of rare occurrences of the inner UJ failing spectacularly on the MK2 Vitesse's and when the Roto-flex couplings fail it can end up very messy and could potentially cause a wheel to lock up and the car to spin off!! So the CV's jointed shafts will omit this potential problem and give you peace of mind. I think the main reason people convert to CV Driveshafts with the Mk2 Suspension is to do away with the Roto-flex Drive couplings which are expensive now (for the genuine article) and are a pain to swop. In answer to who's are best, I can't answer that question, I know CDD have been making them for a number of years and I've heard mostly good stories from people who have fitted them. You may find some of the other Traders may supply the CDD Ones. Regards Gary
  16. I'm sure it's helped many a Triumph survive, especially the later ones built after 1975 with the poorer quality foreign steel? Gary
  17. Martyn ANG Parts list one on E-Bay for the Spitfire as link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374316907421?hash=item572706bb9d:g:HKQAAOSwhGtjU-JX It may be worth an e-mail to see if they do one for the Herald/Vitesse or you may be able to make the Spitfire one fit, if your struggling to find the specific one for the Herald/Vitesse range? Gary
  18. Martyn The Header rail seal retainer is listed on the Rimmer's Site, Part Number 704418 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjzkeHD6LD_AhUoQUEAHffiBjAQFnoECBAQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Frimmerbros.com%2FItem--i-704418&usg=AOvVaw00JjEuUdGJ5y5bpVVznxWV Gary
  19. What about some of the prices listed, I'll take the two TR5's Please?😁
  20. I picked up a copy of an old Motorsport Magazine on Sunday at Newark Autojumble, mainly because there is an advert showing my old TR5 For sale. There are some great old adverts in the magazine too, here's a few look at the prices of the Triumph Cars listed for sale! Gary
  21. I always thought the vernier adjuster was for small adjustments only and should be adjusted to the middle setting? I'm not sure what Distributor the Mk3 Spit is fitted with, but here's a link regarding the Vernier adjustment on a 25D Lucas type fitted to a Morris Minor, 18 click is equivalent to 1 degree, with a maximum of 13 degree's adjustment in total using the vernier https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiA5M3Coa7_AhUbEcAKHbGlB2wQFnoECCQQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fboard.mmoc.org.uk%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ft%3D59263&usg=AOvVaw2kzQVgFxxorwtHUVWQFqe9 Regards Gary
  22. The Triumph Design Engineers must have found a cold air supply into the Engine gives a slight increase in power? It is a known fact that on a cold wet day, engines will run better with the cold damp air being mixed with the Fuel. Gary
  23. Hi again Martyn Here's a link to some useful tips from the Club Triumph Website https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj7is3VzaT_AhWMgVwKHfAPDWoQrAIoAHoECBwQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.clubtriumph.co.uk%2Fforums%2Ftopic%2F1289-hood-fitting%2F&usg=AOvVaw0poTMQM-X-K67xrwph0JUd I've fitted a couple with varying degree's of success, its advisable to unfold the hood and lay it out in a warm room or in the sun first for a day or so. When fitting it's easier/better to do the work on a hot day as the Vinyl will be more supple and easier to stretch to remove creases Start by making sure your hood frame is in good condition and fits well with regards to the side windows (Even gaps all the way around of about 1" if remember correctly before the seals and retainers are fitted) I would advise getting new Aluminium Seal retainers (3 Pieces per side) and new 'J' Shaped rubber seals, a new seal for the front is advisable too. Start at the rear making sure the hood is central before making any holes and that it looks like it will fit the sides above the door windows correctly (I've seen hoods both too narrow and too wide in this area) if that's the case you have no chance of getting it to fit correctly Another pair of hands to Hold, stretch the fabric and assist is advisable, a good contact adhesive is a must too together with a rivet gun and 1/8" rivets will be needed for some of the poppers together with the correct size self tapers for some of the finishers and seal retaining channels. I also used some 3.5mm Countersunk type Switch/Socket screws/nuts/washers for some of the hood poppers There was an article in one of the TSSC Courier magazines a few years ago and Practical Classic magazine also did a feature on fitting one to a Herald they restored but this was 30+ years ago! You need to try and get the tension correct to remove as many creases as possible, getting the rear quarter light windows to fit crease free is very difficult to do. Here's a couple of photo's of what my Mohair hood looked like when fitted (Done by The Don Trimming Co. though in Brum) so I can't take any credit Good luck Gary PS - I've sent you a PM regarding the Hood Finisher you wanted
  24. That's a good idea with the Brass Nuts, they should come off ok if you ever need to change the exhaust downpipe🙂 Gary
  25. Listed on the Triumph Vitesse Facebook pages and not a scam Needs a bit of sorting by the sounds of it but a realistic price Note - This is not a genuine Park Royal Estate. Regards Gary
