  1. Hi Guys, Surprising how small Triumphs are going up in value, saw a Spitfire Mk2 going for £29,000 the other week! Cheers, Brett
  2. Thanks Guys, I have got a quote of £94 from Adrian Flux with an agreed value of £15000 which sounds reasonable to me. Once I get it back I will take it up. Cheers, Brett
  3. Hi Guys, My Spitfire Mk3 should be back from the body shop next month and hopefully by October it will be ready to use. I have owned it for over 40 years, it is registered to me at my address and I have the V5 issued 40 years ago. It is pre-sorn. I was thinking of doing the following, 1/ SORN it. 2/ Insure it. 3/ Apply for VHI status. 4/ Although not legally required MOT it. Is there anything I have missed? Cheers, Brett
  4. Thanks guys, I will give the POR15 a go. Cheers, Brett
  5. Hi Guys, My fuel tank has been cleaned and painted externally but it is quite rusty internally. Anybody got any recommendations on how to remove the rust and crud prior to fitting it to my Spit Mk3? I assume the sender has to come out prior to the clean, what is the best way of removing it? I can see the lugs should I use a block of wood and hammer to unscrew it? Cheers, Brett
  6. Hi Guys, I am certain that I read somewhere that the Spitfire MK3 and TR6 windscreens and frames were identical. The numbers on the Rimmer site are different but this might not indicate anything. Any ideas? Cheers, George
  7. Hi Guys, I have a similar problem with my Spitfire MK3. Other than the door handles do the Mk4 doors fit a MK3 as MK3 doors are as rare as hen's teeth? Cheers, Brett
  8. Hi Rolyberkin, Your Mk3 looks a lot better than mine and I am just about in to 5 figures for the resto. Good luck with it and post a few pics when finished. Cheers, Brett
  9. Thanks for the offers guys, I am in Oldham, Greater Manchester. Cheers, Brett
  10. Thanks Guys, Might take you up on your offer Anglefire, I will let you know when I try it. Car is currently in the body shop having new floor and sills. Need to get the heritage certificate before I change anything serious although it might be OK as a safety enhancement. Cheers, Brett
  11. Thanks guys, Looks like I will need one when I put my Mk4 spring on my Mk3 Spitfire. Cheers, Brett
  12. Funnily enough just found one on ebay!!!!
  13. Hi Guys, I was reading an old copy of Practical Classics the other day and it mentioned changing a Spitfire's rear cart spring was extremely difficult without a spring lifter tool. It is possible without one, because I and many others have done it, but it is a real pain. Has anybody ever used one of these rear spring lifters and who sells them? Cheers, Brett
  14. Hi Guys, I should be getting my Spitfire Mk3 back from the body shop by the end of the month. Any recommendations for a paint shop in the Greater Manchester area? I have a insurance repair centre near me that does re-sprays but I would like more than one option. Cheers, Brett
  15. Thanks Guys, Thought somebody would know. I looked at both Rimmers and Canleys and could not find it! I will order the bottom half as the rubber is quite soft. Cheers, Brett.
  16. Hi Guys, The rear mounting for my D type overdrive unit is not the same as the one Rimmer's or Canley's sell and I was wondering if there was another version made originally? The unit sold by the above companies is a one piece mounting and has the chassis mounting plate bolt holes directly below the overdrive flange bolt holes whereas mine is a two piece mounting with the chassis plate mounting holes offset rearwards. Although the unit is fitted to a Mk3 Spitfire I actually found it on an earlier mark in a scrapyard many years ago. I enclose a couple of photographs of my two piece mounting. I was wondering if it was transferred from some other application. Any ideas? Cheers, Brett
  17. Hi Guys, Anybody got any idea of how much it would cost per side to replace the floor and the inner, middle and outer sills of a Mk3 Spitfire,? Cheers, Brett
  18. Hi Guys, Am I right in thinking that the MK3 and MK4 door carcasses are identical and the only differences are the skins abd handles? Cheers, Brett
  19. Hi Guys, I want to make sure that my body/sills do not sag when I remove Spitfire Mk3's body from the chassis. Rimmers sell a door gap tool but I cannot see how to attach both ends. One end goes where the top hinge fits but how do I attach the other end? Thanks
  20. Hi. It was a four bladed fan but I chopped two off as apparently it uses less power. Still cools fine though. Cheers, Brett
