  1. Hi Guys, I have read the various posts on fitting a new cam using unmarked sprockets but I have read so many including non-tssc ones that I am confused. Is this how it is done? 1/ Set engine to TDC on number one cylinder. 2/ With rocker gaps set at 40 thou on number 4 cylinder rotate the camshaft until the gaps on both cylinder 4 valves are equal (one opening the other closing). 3/ Connect the timing chain. I have already installed the cam, months ago, but I want to check it as I am not too confident that it is correct. Cheers.
  2. Drop dead gorgeous. Best I have seen for a long time!
  3. Thank you very much. Will be starting the main loom installation plus OD loom once my better half stops finding me jobs to do. Keep telling her I don't do anything now , I'm retired! Cheers.
  4. Hi Guys, Done the rear wiring loom but cannot check it yet until I have done the main (front) one. Many years ago, about 35, when the car was a daily driver I fitted an overdrive that I had found on a Mk2 Spitfire in the local scrapyard. I operated it manually using an old choke cable. As I am in the process of rebuilding my car I decided to connect it properly using the standard electrics. I bought an overdrive wiring loom plus inhibitor switch and solenoid from Rimmers and I know where all the connections go from the wiring diagram. Question is is where do the wires physically run? Two connect to the wires from the column OD switch and I assume that the rest of the OD loom goes through the bulkhead and down passed the bellhousing to the gearbox. Is that correct? Cheers.
  5. Thanks KevinR and PeteH. Just downloaded the diagram. Cheers.
  6. Hi, Thanks for your reply. Which numbers go together though, you have two which trigger the relay and the other two carry the heavy current to power the device? Are 30 and 85 used to switch the relay on and off and 86 and 87 carry the heavy current? Cheers
  7. Thanks guys. Managed to thread the connector block down the rear nearside wing and out through a hole at the bottom of the B post (inner sill). Had to file that hole a fair bit bigger to get it through. I am replacing the solderless connectors with crimped ones. Will install the main (front) wiring loom next, hopefully next week. I am considering fitting a modern fuse box and some relays once I work out where the relays go. Anybody got any ideas how to tell which of the relay connects are main or secondary? Cheers.
  8. Hi Guys, What is the easiest (best) way of fitting the rear wiring loom. Push all the wires through the hole in the inner and middle sills and pull them over the rear wheel arch to the back or drop the connector socket down inside the rear wing and then try to pull it out of the hole in the sill? Both methods seem likely to cause damage to the wiring. Cheers
  9. Thanks as always guys. Think I will first try the steel rivnuts way and see how it goes. Cheers.
  10. Hi Guys, Managed to make myself a bit of a problem. I have a '67 Mk3 Spitfire which is currently being renovated. Due to the original windscreen frame being completely rotten I managed to get another, more decent one, from Ebay. The problem I have is it has the later soft top fastening method with levers, like a Mk4, whilst my soft top has the original pull down and over fasteners. I can either modify the window frame to take my current fittings or can my hood frame be modified to take the later style ones? Anybody got any ideas which would be easier? Cheers,
  11. Hi Guys, Has anybody fitted these carpets yet and are they any good? Cheers, George
  12. Hi Pete, Looking at the workshop manual again it only shows four clips, not five as mine has currently, with the central one missing. That must be the one you mean. Thanks for your expert advice as always. Cheers, George
  13. Hi Guys, I am in the process of replacing the rear spring on my Mk3 Spitfire for a new Mk4 swing spring. As you know on the new spring there is a plate which goes through the spring above the bottom most leaf. However I cannot get the new plate in as the whole assembly is too tight also I cannot get a spanner in to remove the centre stud for the same reason. My workshop manual is no use in this matter as it just tells you how to take the spring out and put it back in. Do I need to remove the spring clips or am I missing something? Cheers, George
  14. Hi Guys, If you fit a lowering block on the rear do you need extra long studs? Cheers, George
  15. Thanks guys, thought that would be the case. Didn't know Tigerseal could be used that way. Cheers.
  16. The whole internet was bad for me last night. Fine today.
  17. Hi Guys,. I have just received scroll badges for my Spitfire Mk3 boot lid, the badges in question are "Spitfire" and "Mk3" surprisingly! My boot lid is the original for the car so the holes are correctly spaced, the right hand prong on each badge is way out of line with its hole. Is this typical of the quality one can expect from modern reproductions or have I just been unlucky? I purchased them from one of the regular Triumph spares providers. Cheers, George
  18. Thanks Clive. Not looking too good then for alternate seats.
  19. Hi Clive, Are there any others that will definitely fit such as MX5? Cheers, George
  20. Hi Guys, Has anybody successfully fitted MGTF seats into a Mk3 Spit? I bought some in great condition but now find that the frames are about an inch too wide and do not fit in to the floor well. I saw the post on fitting MGF seats in to a Vitesse but there appears to be more space there. Cheers, George
  21. Thanks Guys, I will contact Rimmers or Canley and get it and nut ordered. Cheers, George
  22. Hi Guys, Looking at my Autopress WM for Spitfire Mk3 & 4 1969 to 72, pages 78/79, it shows the swing spring has a small centre bolt that fits in a recess in the diff housing presumably securing the plate to the bottom leaf. The Rimmer's catalogue does not show this nor does it include it in the component list under the exploded diagram. Is it still required or was it dropped as unnecessary.? I am going to fit a new swing spring to my Mk3 during the new lockdown and I have all the bits except that and its nut. Cheers, George
  23. Hi guys, I have some GAZ shocks for my Mk3 Spitfire but not yet fitted them. When you say position 2 is that moving the adjuster clockwise or anti-clockwise? Cheers, George
