My next door neighbour's BMW got broken into on his drive and the radio stolen. He said "The joke's on them, the radio and speakers are coded, one wont work without the other" Two nights later they came back and took the speakers.
Doug
That's a strange thing to steal? I thought they only nicked indicator stalks off BMW's....

I've ordered some NOS Tranco exhaust valves off eBay to use in the rebuild. Not that I necessarily think they'll be better, but I'll have some peace of mind that I've done something to avoid repeating the same failure. Will stick with the modern inlets.
I now feel a lot better informed about valves! Nothing is ever straightforward is it...
Thanks very much for all the info.
Pete
Hi Pete, i have used Tranco valves many many times over the years, and found them excellent. I have even bought main dealer valves (Ford) and Tranco were in the box......

Don't worry, if I'm desperate enough I'll gnaw the top off.
It's amazing what you can do one-handed if you just jam the end in somewhere tight.
Maybe I should rephrase that? 😮
Would that be your wallet Colin

Bolted to the gearbox, it is the same was as the diff end.
Afraid it is tunnel out time....
It should have a UJ at one end, and a CV joint at the other. Be warned, changing a UJ often results in a vibration caused by imbalance, for some reasons the cars are notoriously bad for it. So fit the best UJ you can find and get it balanced.....
(I changed UJ's in my prop after a UJ seized. It now has a vibration at motorway speeds. I really need to get that sorted before I stat doing a lot of long trips)
Try a jubilee clip about 9inches from the diff Clive, and then move it about 25 to 30 degree's at a time.... It will then be balanced, time consuming i know, but it does work.

This stuff is excellent as well Paula, and a bit easier to sand. It's also waterproof. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-BODY-REPAIR-FIBREGLASS-KIT-250ml-FILLER-RESIN-PASTE-FIBREGLASS-MAT-ALU-MESH/282623754672?hash=item41cdb041b0:g:574AAOSwnXhcdEWe

I would be having a chat with Paddocks as said above..... That sure looks a faulty item to me.
Never seen a break like that.

That does sound ok Paul, next year you wont have the £10 set up as it's a one off fee. If you do happen to buy another classic? you will be surprised how cheap it is to add another.

Paula, dont go into any garage acting as a mere female, a lot will take advantage and bung the price up
This sort of thing still goes on. Try and get advice off female friends and see where they take their cars? Then go in that garage and ask who they use for bodywork? It could save you a lot of money, and dont be put off by the smaller garage no matter how scruffy....

You can get some great old MK plug tops at car boot sales. I got 5 for a £1 in the summer
Worth it for the fuses..

Peter James here as well, three cars all with agreed value, breakdown cover (exellent) and no mileage limit all for well under £200
I did call Classicline who were very helpfull, but could not offer me anything remotely close to Peter James.

Nice to have you back Karl, just hope next year is a better one for you. Bakelite responds well to Brasso and a toothbrush (not mrs B's) i found that off a chap at a show when i had a Ford pop with bakelite window surrounds they came up superb.

Santa doesn't post anywhere, he delivers!
(Although in Russia he doesn't bring presents until New Year's Eve)
Almost the entire world believes that a fat man can come down their chimney, from a flying sleigh pulled by reindeer, and give them free things, and I'M on medication?
A bit like Jeremy Corbyn, although was he on medication? Or should he have been?

I've had the dressings changed, it looks nothing like a keyhole, looks more like the bit the medication makes it seem I'm talking out of. AND there are three of them.
Maybe they lost the key Colin and had to break in instead??? Those painkillers sound like the ones i used to take, morphine based.

How did that happen??????
That was a year that was..

At a guess Pete the white metal flaking could be water damage or rust on the crank which happened when the crank was turned??
Only a stab in the dark as the crank looks undamaged.
