Would a UJ noise come from under the seat area? I was guessing gear box where it meets engine but I know diddly squat. I’ll let you know what the mechanic diagnoses. What do you guys do with the hood? There isn’t a ‘cover’ on this one so I just tuck it in behind the seats. Also find the passenger side clasp nearest the door hard to set - any suggestions? I’m learning as I go. Never did I guess how much value bacon may hold!

Sound travels a lot Andy, i am sure your mechanic will agree.... So i would'nt worry to much untill he has had a look, i'm sure if it was serious it would have fell off on the way back..

Makes me smile, more importantly the kids love it. Especially the 5 year old!

If a car makes you smile Andy then you are on a winner :)  I agree with scrapman, noise does sound like a u/j.

I once told a guy who plagued me in my office about his Vx 4/90 timing and HT so taking the mick I suggested he stuck ht lead in his mouth and turn the engine and he would feel when it fired.

Next day I had to get security to remove him ...well  it proved the leads were ok

Dont do this  at home I guess

    Pete

Good one, hard to believe he fell for it. :)  You will also remember the champion spark plug cleaner/tester's mounted to metal benches? Not many people leaned on them.....

Thanks a lot for the input chaps.

No paint marks, though feel quite heavy and an AF nut fits. Very fine surface crazing on rubber, so hopefully ok.

they were £20 inc postage. My current ones are working ok, though look ancient. One of those, will I ever need them?, buys.

    Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave, the surface crazing on the rubber and the fact they have unf threads suggest to me that they were "spurious" so to speak items from the 70's 80's era. Not as good as genuine, but a good copy and are far better than the Chinese crap on the market. My brother used to sell these copies to the trade years ago, and that crazing was the way to define them from the real thing. So use them when the time comes :) They will be ok.

  6. It is surprising what a classic will sell for....About 10yrs ago i bought a second classic car.... wife say's  "you can't drive two, one has to go"  So i put the older one up for sale at a stupid price two grand more than i paid for it 12mths earlier thinking  "no one will pay that, i can keep the two" :)  3days later a chap came round i refused any offer he made and he ended up paying the full asking price....... One half of me was gutted the other pleased......The good part of the story is that the wife see's them as an investment? As i now have three toys to play with :)

  7. I did feel for a guy with a GT40 at the weekend (Sunday), something snapped on his rear suspension and one of the rear wheels was at 90 degrees. It happened about 9-30am and at 3-45pm as we were coming back from a run out in Triumphs the recovery truck had only just arrived.............Luckily a neighbour a neighbour of mine had spotted him and took him some food and cold drinks. It was also on a very dangerous bend on a fast road.

I was checking the diff oil level and also took a look at the UJ,s . They are greaseable and the flat screw came out but tried a long grease nipple but it wouldn’t fit as the collar of the extended nipple caught against the yoke and cross threading felt highly likely I suppose I need a short one ?

Doug - Got two of the Aldi charger thingies. One for the Spitfire and one for Lady BW's. Brilliant gadgets. I think they were about £15.00 each. Probably will be coming up again soon as winter approaches. Put one on Lady BW's and it appeared to do a wobbly but then totally restored the battery. Took a full day to do it but worked very, very well. I keep the other on the Spitfire as mucking about with things it gets drained via the courtesy lights especially if I leave the doors open to do another job.

I thought i would have a look for Doug on the Aldi website Badwolf, as like you i have two of them (very good they are) but alas they are no longer available...... I also have one of the expensive ones (c-tech) and the Aldi one is better.
