  1. My handbrake was nearly as bad as yours, I discovered the rear drum shoes needed adjusting. Once done the handbrake is much lower to engage and works fine. Iain
  2. Newman Cams sell single springs for their PH1-3 cams rated at 160lbs and doubles for their race cam rated at 200lbs. I would go with their recommendation and buy the single spring. Iain

    Spark plugs

Could be worse if it were diesel...!

    Spark plugs

Now you know what a constipated spark plug looks like!

    Spark plugs

Never had a plug anything like that bad. You say DIY pcv system and 'castor' oil, what do you mean? Iain
  6. Is there supposed to be a vacuum advance pipe from the dizzy to the front carb?
  7. They look good, the 8mm leads I have are blue. The important thing is some have the correct angled fittings. The previous set on my car all had straight plug fittings and made the leads look untidy. Iain

    Dizzy cap order

There's an arrow on my rotor arm showing which way it rotates. Follow the arm round and make sure the lead from the plug is in that order on the cap. Iain
  9. I fitted mine vertically on rubber mounts bolted to a galv cover plate. The plate covers the hole where the old pump was. That way I used the existing copper pipe with new hose ends. Iain
  10. I took it out as some as I had marked the points on the pulley!! My short term memory ain't what it used to be.
  11. No I used a spanner on the pulley nut, I still have the knuckle scars! It must have been dangerous hand cranking a big four pot engine.
  12. Downside is having to hand crank the engine to readjust the tappet clearances. On a 6 pot the radiator is mighty close and scrapes your knuckles.
  13. Would your normal side lights with replacement led bulbs to brighten them up conform to German regs? Led bulbs can be obtained in various colour ranges. I replaced mine and the sides and brake lights are much better. Iain
  14. Do you know what the actual timing is? I set by vacuum and backed off 1 but this was 20btdc and it pinked on load. I've backed off to about 15 degrees and seems to be ok. I too try and fill with Tesco Momentum 99 Octane.
  15. Good point! I must learn to use my brain..... The markings on the pulley are faint so when I had the engine out I marked tdc and 13 degrees btdc with a white tipex. On checking using the piston stop the pulley outer ring hasn't moved and tdc is in fact in line with the pointer on the cam cover.
  16. I think it's easier and possibly more accurate to use a dead stop of some kind whether that's through the spark plug or a bridge across the block if the head is off. With the stop I bought the rocker assembly had to be removed as the opening valve hit the stop.
  17. Hopefully that's the only blockage. When refilling I've always been told not to mix OAT and IAT antifreeze. When I bought my car the radiator, heater valve and some pipes where full of a gloopy gel (some of it solid) that can form when you mix the two types. Iain
  18. Crikey you'll all be in the poop if you took my advise😂😂
  19. Thanks will do! StraightSix Steve, an example of how we all help and work together. You've come to the right forum! Iain
  20. Paul, I would love to fit a sunroof! Does anyone make them (that doesn't leak) to fit a Vitesse?
  21. So that's what you cook in your garage! If I remember correctly when covid started and everyone bathed in sanitiser there was a good thread on the forum about home brewed alcohol. This forum is so useful and informative.....
  22. Steve welcome to the forum. The guys here are very knowledgeable and will give real hands on help with all Triumph matters.....plus anything else! I agree concourse cars can be a pain. I took over two years to achieve a concours E Type and sold it 6 months later. Two frightened to take it out the garage. Sold it and bought a good useable TR3A and loved it. I have a Mk2 Vitesse saloon, the roof keeps most of the rain out but gets a bit toasty in the summer. Saloon would still be my choice Iain
