    1500 engine into a 1360

Hi All, I am getting confused with all this bought an engine and gearbox complete. From Chic Doig who said that it was from a MG Midget and was running well. I took of the gearbox to make sure all was OK and in doing so found that the fingers on clutch plate were wearing so decided to replace both the pressure plate and clutch plate I the purchased both from James Paddock and fitted them and refitted the gearbox. So as far as I can tell all should be OK, as I said I had a bad accident recently so it is slow going now but it will be a while before I get a chance to test it all. Steve

    1500 engine into a 1360

Hi johny, The engine is definitely a 1500 as the code stamped on the block confirms. I looked at what gearbox was used in the midget and it was the same one used in the marina.

    1500 engine into a 1360

Hi Johny, The 1360 and 1500 clutch from Paddocks have the same part number and enquired that they were the same before I bought it. So don't know what the difference is with the Rimmers one. Steve

    1500 engine into a 1360

Hi all, Thanks for the replies. Couple of things, I fitted a new clutch and it has the same pert number ie 1360 and 1500 so I don't see a problem there and if I can get the engine back a bit I will stick with the gearbox that came with the engine. I have the engine mounts as far forward as they can go but wii look at orientation as described. As for the spacers will look in the parts manual or make some. Thanks again for the help Steve
  6. Hi, I bought an MG Midget engine and gearbox and have fitted it onto the chassis of my 1360,the bulkhead is not bolted down yet but the inlet manifold and the hose on the fuel pump foul the bulkhead. The holes at the front of the bulkhead line up with the corresponding holes in the chassis so it is in the correct position. I have the option of fitting a 1360 inlet manifold with a stromberg cd150 carburettor therefore doing away with the twin su carbs that solves that part of the problem. I had to modify the gearbox mounts to the chassis as they were for the MG chassis and I wonder if the gearbox is to low tilting the engine forward. It was a while ago when I did this as due to an accident I have not been able to do much for a while but I think I made it the same height. If all else fails I have a 1360 gearbox that I can use. Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve
  7. Hi Martin, I asked Chic Doig if he had a decent second hand one and his reply was I have a new one if you want it. So I think they may still be available. Steve
  8. I have two 1360 heralds so two badges for me if they become available. Steve
  9. Shackle bolts available from Paddocks. Steve
  10. Looked at Paddocks and they have one for the 1500 that has a part number ending in 1088 so looks to be sorted. Steve
  11. Thanks to you all. I have two many things on the go at the moment, and a bit of brain fade I think. I keep forgetting, even if the engine was from a MG Midget it was the same as fitted to Triumph 1500 rear wheel drives, so as Clive says 1500 should fit. Thanks for the measurement Clive. Thanks Steve
  12. It should have come with one but?. Simple solution, thanks. Steve
  13. Have fitted an alternator to my 13/60 with a 1500 engine today, however. The engine is from a MG Midget and the prefix shows that Triumph fitted them to 1500 rear wheel drive cars. The kit was purchased from Paddocks suitable for a Spitfire a fan belt came with the kit but does not fit, to small. Does anyone know what size is required please. Thanks Steve
  14. Hi, I will take another photo as I don't think the photo reflects the reality and I don't think any work has been done to the wing or b post but will investigate. Thanks Steve
  15. Hi Pete, Unfortunately purchased the wrong door seals before I found out they were available elsewhere, but have to live with that, the nearside door shows that. The picture of the nearside looks like a big gap in the middle which is not as bad as it looks. I will take the seals off check and adjust the bonnet if needed and go from there. Thanks Steve 20221116_164854.thumb.jpg.063106c191518a755362a1955caa4c8e.jpg0
  16. I will take a picture, plus two other things it really does not look like a new doorskin and there is not any tub spread as the points to measure are 45 inches. Thanks for the replies. Steve
  17. I have taken off and refitted both doors on my other herald and one fits really well but the other one juts out at the bottom rear. It has been a while since last did the doors so tried to do some adjustment yesterday and have improved it but not as much as I would like. I have a download of the Triumph body fitting guide which is not the best, struggle with the pictures. Some simple steps to help would be very helpful. Thanks Steve
  18. Having fitted a MG Midget gearbox to my 13/60 I have read that I will need to recalibrate the speedometer has anybody had this done and if so what is involved and costs please. Thanks Steve

    Sliding propshaft

To help eliminate any confusion I took a couple of pictures to show the prop in place, I also measured the prop to identify which one it was with the help of Canleys information, the pop is 451/2 and as can be seen the gearbox is a non overdrive. Steve

    Sliding propshaft

Hi all, I was told that a sliding prop was what was required, so assumed that was correct. Well no actually, I have an overdrive prop bought at Stafford for the princely sum of £10 some years ago, when I looked last night it seemed to be to long, however in the cold light of day by moving the engine mounts as far forward as possible it fits. I have replaced ujs before without any issues and it would seem silly not replace these on an unknown prop, one moves easily and the other is very stiff and now is the time before the body is put back on. Thanks for all the replies. Steve
  21. Hi, Looking for a sliding propshaft for a 13/60 with a 1500 engine and gearbox from a MG Midget. Was thinking of somewhere like Spitfire Graveyard or if anyone has one for sale. Thanks Steve
  22. Hi, An article on his website, Rarebits (for classics) by Bill Davis covered this and he made two important comments. First, never use rubber to pack the gaps, use the metal parts for that and secondly every part of the body that attaches to the chassis should have the rubber first ie no part of the body touches metal. Hi All, Well having removed the valve this is what I found. Not the same length, obviously or width?, also when I undid the valve it took just a tap on the spanner to move it and little effort to undo it, so been undone in the past. Makes you wonder what else I will come across. Thanks Steve
