Your position does not seem to far off. Any chance of temporary fitting the foot rest and installing the tunnel to see how you foot rests upon it. Sorry about the orientation of the pictures first time for posting pictures. Graham

If your wiper motor will not stop unless you stop it yourself the chances are the fault lies with the stop park switch which is the white plastic block at the bottom of the picture. Generally if you have to put you arm out of the window to catch the wipers to hold them in the park position it is this switch. The switch is common to many BL cars of the time. It is held in position by a spring clip on the side. From the picture you it is located on the underside. Graham

Johnny It was simpler than I thought I got an aluminium tube and carefully drilled and filed a hole in the bell housing. The hole is located by the side of the clutch lever opening. Then I had the tube welded in which had a plate fitted to the end located in the bell housing. The hardest part was locating the the centre of the selector shaft on the bell housing. I went through numerous trial fittings of the housing on the the gearbox. Still got to put the box back so still plenty of opportunity of something to go wrong. In addition there is another shaft that needs holding in place, but this is a simple plate welded in position. Another alteration is the clutch lever in the bell housing that needs its edge curving as it catches the tube. I have numerous pictures which I am going to post on another thread under the gearbox folder but I had basic question like this one which I posted under a more appropriate folder as they may help others. I will complete the other thread when I complete the task. Adrian, that why I brought it and I found he sold parts at a reasonable price. Nearly brought his GT6 but the Wife said no unless I sold a car, I did suggest that could be hers. I followed his build and would have paid his asking price without seeing it. Was a great build. Another thought the tunnel carpet should have a cut in it for the foot rest, if so can't you use that as a template to the position. Graham

Hello all I still have to the gearbox once I have measured the distance between the gear box and diff I can understand how to process as on the next step. I all ways thought the splinters would be on show but that was not the case with the prop I took off. Hopefully when I have the new length this will provide the answer. Graham

Thank you for the advice, greatly appreciated as always. The reason I need to cut the prop is that I am fitting a 1850 dolomite OD oearbox into a GT6. Foolishly I purchase a standard OD shaft thinking it would fit which was refurbished by John Bonnet, I was foolish not John - a good bloke. I have been advised that I need to take an Inch off. Hence my question. Your replies about 1/2 to 3/4 of the splines being located inside the shaft makes sense and was what I was expecting when I took the old one off, but the full length was in the shaft so a very tight fit. Hello Just measured my footrest for a GT 6, this measuring the metal bracket (the section the foot actually touches and without the rubber on) and from the inside edge of the cardboard tunnel (non metal side/ non body side) The bottom sits 18mm from the horizontal, gap between the bottom of the metal support and the section of the tunnel that sits on the floor. The bottom of the bracket is 100mm from the vertical edge of the tunnel the section that placed against the bulk head. The top of the bracket is 82mm from the same surface as above. Hopefully that makes sense if not I could attempt to add a picture tomorrow. Graham

As part of a gearbox exchange I need to shorten a prop shaft on a GT 6 , when measure the distance between the gearbox and diff do I get the prop shaft cut so the slide is fully inside the shaft or have a bit of the slide visual so I have a bit of play for fitting? Hopefully that makes sense. On removing the prop shaft it was very tight with the slide part fully inside the shaft so it was a tight gift. Graham.

I have progressed with the bell housing and actually had an aluminium tube fitted/welded. I have taken various pictures of the whole task and will write up what I did. Fortunately I found a small engineering workshop who were prepared to work with me to carry out the welding. I prepared the hole first then it took them nearly 1 hour of trial and error to get it done, this included an additional plate to cover and stop another shaft protruding from the gearbox. I took the gearbox and bell housing to the engineering shop so we tacked the tube in place at first when the bell housing was attached to the gearbox. Hoping to get the gearbox fitted this weekend and get final pictures of the installation. By the way you can get a copy of the BS 1490 on line which confirms that ON04 can be welded. Graham

Hello The overdrive will only engage or dis engage when you operate the switch. So the answer to your question is no. Generally the engine revs will increase (dis engage) or decrease (engage) by about 500 rpm. Graham

Yes you are correct it is a single rail onto a GT6 bell housing. The position of the selector shaft seems to just catch the corner of the rectangle hole for the clutch bearing lever. I thought welding may be a better fix. Graham

Hello Excellent I thought it was, I am currently converting a Gt6 to a 1850 Dolly gearbox and J type overdrive. So I thought of having the bell housing welded to sort the selector rod issue, possibly having a seal tube welded in position for the selector rod to fit into. I am taking picture and will add to another post to collect information for others. Graham

Not true draft Bass as not brewed by the union method, removed the oak vats in the 80's as the accountants claimed they cost to much. Graham

With regards to battery warranty, yesterday the landrover battery failed after just two year, no problem life time guarantee from halford, I purchase this expensive battery as the LR will not be sold. So I thought never need to buy another battery ever again for the LR, no chance Halford have stop selling that battery so had to take a 5 year battery. Never seems to work for me. Graham

Hello My original post about him receiving a new car was really about the stupidity of some, really could I phone up Land Rover and have the highest grade motor delivered to me. They pay people at lot of money to look after them and then that happens. I have a lot of time for the royal family but really why have a new car delivered the next day. Could they have not had one driven up from another estate? Graham
