  1. Welcome to the forum, you will find it very friendly and useful. Never ever give up!!
  2. To my knowledge the GT6 has the engine closer to the bonnet than a Vitesse, hence some problems there. So you have a Vitesse? What engine & carbs? Please add info about car and model when you ask questions on this forum, It's difficult to answer without knowing exactly what car you have. I hope you got enough info from our members to solve your paint problems in previous thread.
  3. Welcome to this forum Paul, you will find it very useful and friendly. You will not regret buying a Vitesse, great cars. Best regards Roger.
  4. Hello Amanda, and welcome to this forum! This is the place where you find the paint code on most of our cars (described in text above by Pete). What car / model do yo have? /Roger
  5. 20 TPI confirmed, see picture I noticed (when reading previous thread) that my drain plug had different threads but I just assumed that some PO had ruined the threads in my block and drilled a new hole and made new threads with a new drain plug, hence my plug being different. My metric brain did not realize at first that 5/8 is a bigger hole than my own 1/2 thread which eliminate the logic... I'm still daft regarding fractions of an inch despite fiddling with these cars for 30 years. Dividing with 10, 100 or a 1000 IS a LOT easier than comparing different size of fractions 😉
  6. I'm confused... I read the thread Pete refers to and I just happened to remove the drain plug from my early Vitesse 2-Litre engine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not 1/2 inch? Did not measure TPI or if it's tapered or not. Have I missed something or are early Vitesse 2-Litre engines different? (HC-engine) I assume 4-cylinders and 6-pots have the same threads?
  7. Thanks for the offer Colin, but I think I have the knowledge and the remedy needed now. Thanks!
  8. Yep, that one too! Thanks Nick. I plan to pour some kind of acid in the water jacket to remove the remaining rust as a final cleaning step after I have shoveled out the most of the loose dirt, sand and rust manually. So I just have to remember to plug these holes before the chemistry session begins. Still a bit chilly here on the island for working outdoors, will save that for a sunny day.
  9. I have spent a lot of time lately to clean up the water jacket (thanks for teaching me proper English @JohnD) in my PI block. Words fail to describe how much rust and dirt I found there! When I used my flashlight to evaluate my progress I noticed by coincident that I could also see the light through one of the threads for the bolts (see picture). That reminded me of one of Colins threads about ”potential leaking stud on engine block”. I started thinking ”maybe I’m not supposed to see the light through those threads??” What was the case when the engine was new? Please enlighten me...
  10. Welcome to this forum Tom. Good luck with your Herald!
  11. One way to correlate a specific number to production year is to order a BMIHT certificate. My Vitesse has number HC974LCV and was built on 19:th of October 1966. I have never seen the kind of list you refer to (number range per year) but maybe someone else here has. We will soon find out 🙂
  12. You find some of this information in the WSM, page 0-107 (could not send picture now). The Mk II has commission that starts with HC50001, built from October 1968. MkI has number HC1 onwards built from October 1966 to September 1968. The Vitesse 6 has number HB1 -> built from April 1962 until June 1963. HB15001 onwards built from July 1963 up to August 1966. /Roger
  13. Any specific model you are interested in? You can find such a list for the 2000 / 2500 here (scroll down a bit)
  14. And this is the "Swedish MH engine". Very rusty but seems to be the correct version for my Vitesse.
  15. Got some pictures now! This engine has the prefix MB and I assume this is an early "bossless" version i.e will not fit in my Vitesse?

    Roadside Breakdowns

Yes, and I would also add a powerbank in case you cant charge your phone in the car (if you have to disconnect the battery due to smoke etc). This forum works fine also in my mobile phone and there are some knowledgeable chaps here with thousands of posts who usually give excellent advice within minutes 👍 I also make sure that I have ”important emergency numbers” saved in my contacts
  17. Thanks for your feedback everyone. Could someone clarify a bit what "bossless" means? The low number "44" indicates that this engine might indeed be from an early saloon I guess. Still waiting impatiently for pictures from the seller... The engines for sale are unfortunately in poor condition, seized etc but I might be able to save some parts from them, or use the block / crankshaft
  18. That make sense, these engines are located in Sweden! 🙂 Thanks Adrian. I searched on the 2000 register homepage for a list of engine numbers but could not find it. Could you please provide a link @Adrian? Also, is it a 2-litre or 2,5? MkI or Mk II? Regards Roger
  19. Hi All, I have found a few Triumph engines that are for sale, but one of them (with six cylinders) has an engine number that doesn’t make sense to me: MH44HE. Does anyone here know which car and model it came from? Can’t find any MH numbers in the usual lists of Triumph engine numbers. I will get pictures during the weekend. All I know for now is that it looks almost the same as a 2-litre MkI engine but engine mounts looks different. Thanks in advance. Roger
  20. Welcome Mark, and good choise of car! 👍 My Vitesse is also from 1966, one of the first 2-Litres. You will find this forum very friendly and useful. Br Roger
  21. Thanks, this kind of information is great to have!
  22. Hi All, Lots of work related travelling (and procrastination in general) has made my Vitesse project even more embarrassing than Colins Herald 1200 project timewise. But this week I finally went downstairs to my garage and started to inspect my original 2-litre engine in the car. I was disappointed when I could not even turn the engine, it was seized. No turning back, I had to take it apart. Removal of the cylinder head was a struggle, it took me three days (evenings) but as usual I found the proper method here on the forum (here). I have said it before but this forum is a great source of knowledge. I always search before I ask, and very often I find the solution to my problem without asking the gurus here. It’s frustrating to see how people ask the same questions over and over again on fb. Anyway, back to my engine: words fail to describe my disappointment when I found out that several cylinders where full of water and rusty. One of those moments when you ask yourself ”why don’t I collect stamps instead? Why am I doing this?” Well well, I guess these situations are “character building”... Now I have one more good reason to complete my 2,5 project. But finding parts being so far away from England is difficult. I have been considering to build a 2-liter Mk II engine using the 2,5 PI components I have (see above) + crankshaft from the rusty lump on the picture. But then I have to find a Vitesse Mk II inlet manifold (or equivalent from GT6 / 2000) and a pair of Strombergs and I’m still not 100% sure that my 1966 MkI Vitesse gearbox will fit the 1974 2,5 PI engine block I have. I guess I will find out. The other route is to source carbs with lower dashpots from a Dolomite and build a 2,5 litre engine. Given my location I use whatever parts I can get my hands on! To be continued...
