In the future... the ultimate recycling? Spotted in the movies.

Watching a fairly crappy Sci-fi movie earlier, mostly in fast-forward... set in the year 2047 man is flying about the Universe in spaceships, faster-than-light, they have massive orbital space stations, the last word in cutting edge technology.. and yet, when they open doors, they press the handle on one of these:

You can see it in the long shot on the door post to the right. Must be where all the old air tools go when they're worn out in the garage.

  • Colin Lindsay changed the title to In the future... the ultimate recycling? Spotted in the movies.

Vacuum suit gloves are not very dextrous!  You would need a large handle to manipulate and airlock door.   But one that just needs to be pressed?   When you might be in the lock but not in a suit? Basic safety demands that a large, positive movement is needed to open the door.

In Star Wars Darth Vader's lightsaber, made from a camera battery tube, has windscreen wipers for grips. Wonder if he ever replaces them?

In the movie Blade Runner, as well as in Star Wars, the underside of the SW ships are covered in stuck-on everyday objects, as are the buildings in BR.
