aggie
Further to my original post, came to fit the new drive shaft and this is what I found ! Any body seen this before ? Yes, the bit at the bottom is the top of the diff casing where the spring sits.
trigolf
Yes, unfortunately. It's not uncommon. Remember these cast iron bits are getting on for 50 yrs old now, and have probably had some less than sympathetic treatment in the past!
johny
always thought the diff casing takes quite a bashing from the suspension loads both one sided and all together😮 Makes me a bit nervous about using a swing spring diff (4 hole) with a fixed spring in my Vitesse.... Steve P
I have a 3:63 (4 hole) on my 1500 Herald with a fixed spring,i was going to ask about the addition of a Courier spring with a 1 inch lowering block to it, too much load?. Pete Lewis
when i chucked the swinger trial on my vitesse with a 4 hole diff and went to the fixed courier + 1" block i just drilled the extra two holes with a battery drill, drilled in situ. just used the top plate as a rough jig, drill 8.3mm and tap 3/8 x 24 unf and fit the new studs its easy to drill and i drilled approx 25 mm deep without breakthrough Pete
johny
Interesting, the original stud holes go right through to the interior but I suppose theres no real disadvantage if they dont....
