euan douglas
Hi All, Pondering getting my engine refurbished/remanufactured and was wondering if anyone has used the Club service with Ivor Searle? How does the service work- ie getting the engine to and from Searle's, does the quoted price include carriage there and back and how long does it typically take? Any other info would be useful, for example quality of overall service. Just wondering - no concrete plans at present. Thanks for any input, Euan
NonMember
I've not used the club's service but I had my Vitesse's engine worked on by Ivor Searle (they're my most local engine specialist) and had no complaints at all. Later, our local area had a tour of their facilities, including the remanufacturing line. It's very impressive. I'd very happily buy a remanufactured engine from them. euan douglas
Many thanks Clive - I suppose I could have looked it up on Google! Euan
Gary Flinn
How about this listed for a late GT6? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114140258231?epid=4031356637&hash=item1a934a1fb7:g:hx4AAOSwEWNcpxym It would probably work out a similar cost with a recon Head, Gasket set and build costs though. euan douglas
Interesting - though I see a refurbished engine through the TSSC and Ivor Searle is about £2800, so that is probably better value. Euan
Gary Flinn
Euan Yes, The Ivor Searle option is a bit cheaper as you get the complete Engine. I purchased a brand new Crankshaft off Fitchett's when I rebuilt the Engine in my Vitesse, I reckon I spent over £1,000 on parts even back then in 2004 and I already had Gasket Sets, seals and Camshaft/Followers, add in the Machining costs if rebores/re-grinds are needed and it will get more expensive? So the Ivor Searle option looks reasonable value? Gary
Pete Lewis
the tssc deal includes the transport stand but there is a £200 surcharge you get £150 back when returned/collected its all inclusive service
euan douglas
Just to wrap this up- I had some feedback from the Club shop who tell me that Ivor Searle has temporarily pulled out of providing this service to the Club. This is due to post lockdown staff shortages/skill sets, the lack of availability of core units and parts plus them not having the time available to repair classic units. They said they would be getting back into this area in due course and would let the Club know when this might happen, though no timescale was mentioned.
