Darren Groves
Give me 5 minutes and I could probably find a longer thread about someone with carb issues..... One good thing about EFI is that once it's set, that's it, no more going out of tune two weeks after you've spent all weekend getting them running right. Short term pain for long term gain, but each to their own, EFI is not everyone's cup of tea. The conversion is not to be undertaken lightly and definitely not for the faint hearted or those without some degree of perseverance. Roger, yours is a bit of a mystery, mine worked pretty much out of the box and only needed the engine constants, priming & cranking pulse changing to get a good start and idle.... I know you wanted to move away from the Ford EDIS & Coil Pack, but I would have been tempted to leave them in place until the fueling was sorted, one less new bit of kit to add to the potential issues. Could you not get the car down the the guys that Phil at ExtraEFI recommended, they advertise as Megasquirt specialists, maybe they'd even come out to you? My modified fuel tank is almost there. The tank sealer kit is done, this is a tedious job but pretty essential given my welding, needs 96 hours to 'set'. It's had a couple of coats of POR-15 paint to keep the surface rust at bay, flatted and will get sprayed in a black 2K over the weekend. I have some bitumen sound deadening pads to attach to minimise any vibration from the internal pump, then will be ready to fit.
Darren Groves
The new tank has now been painted, sound deadening stuck on, pump in place and new sender unit in - ready to fit!......but not until next week, no time til then
rogerguzzi
Hello Darren The tank looks good and a much better solution I think? I am making progress SLOWLY (have you followed my report on the other place?) I have put the Edis back on for now but I am going to fit a VW type coilpack with built in ignition drivers so getting rid of a separate unit and available anywhere! I am also going to change the MAP sensor for a 1bar type because with ITB's do not give very good vacuum at low throttle openings and my 2.5 one seems to wander? I am fitting one of these http://home.kpn.nl/duran103/pics/83800551000PRTv4.pdf They can take 200% over pressure so the spit back should not be a problem but be more sensitive which should be better for my setup? I have be looking at the tachometer today but no luck! what pin out do you have yours set at? Still have to decide on the idle air set up Roger
Darren Groves
Hi Roger, The in-tank pump is much neater, just hope there are no leaks! The tank sealer kits are pretty good, so it should fill any pinholes in the weld, if there are any. Looking forward to the extra capacity the banding should give. Yes, have been following on the Sideways forum, glad the trusty old EDIS unit has at least identified where the issue was, hopefully it saved your sanity, for now at least! Interesting option the VW Coilpack, will look forward to hear the results of this and the 1bar MAP sensor. I had some issues getting the tacho to work. I have used the Tacho Out (Pin 35) and tried all the various 'fixes' that are on the web, but in the end I had to send the Tacho to Speedycables for them to convert, but still had to use a pull-up resistor. Darren Groves
The modified fuel tank is in. I had a minor worry at one point that the spare wheel wouldn't fit but it does with room to spare. The new in-tank pump is much quieter than the previous one, the filter being in the boot is neater also, so all-in-all very happy with this set-up now. rogerguzzi
Hello Darren That looks so much better and professional. I have changed the tacho settings and corrected a conflicted but it still does not work!(B*****R) I think I will send for one of these kits as the one I fitted in the brother in laws TR6 worked a treat. https://urevco.com/ I have been refitting the air filter and other bits after painting them and making a manifold for the idle air system. I have ordered a set of Ford KA ignition leads(cheap £6 and NOS) and they should be about the right length the best I found to be made was £30 plus P&P(half the price of the Tacho conversion?) So it will be fingers crossed that I can get the new coil pack working? I may try and get the idle air system up and running first as the Edis works for now(even if it is balanced on the scuttle?) Darren Groves
After doing around a 1000 miles since the EFI install, I have been pleased with how the car has been running but always thought it could be better. The new engine has been in a few weeks also, so with both my EFI tuning know how and time in short supply I decided to take it to a local Rolling Road to get set-up properly last week. I normally use Dave Baskervilles in Barnstaple, but always felt he didn't quite get it right so today I tried a local garage that have had a RR for about a year now. They were under strict instruction not to try and squeeze every last ounce out of the car, but get it just running nicely. Very pleased with how the car drove, without doubt the best it's been in my 19 years of ownership. The new engine has a Spitfire MK3 Camshaft, MKIV Cylinder Head, CR I didn't bother to calculate but the head measurements indicated it had never been skimmed and it only had a light skim to ensure it was flat, so just over 9.0:1 I guess. Bhp & Torque figures ended up at 74.1 & 81.7, so pretty happy with that. They done a few tweaks before putting it on the RR, the first run was came back at 60 & 73, so good improvements from how I'd got it set up. GT6M
As long as timings, an fuel are ok at the sites on map then that map is OK Butt, that map is useless for info, as look at the points of cross owa some thing is amiss, and some one was amiss setting it up,!! butt, good t,see its driving OK after a while, ye will be able t,tek quite alott of fuel oot at cruise sites for better mpg tooo far , and it,ll need moer throttle, so will actually use moer,!! And,if ye fart aboot wid the DFCO, then its possible t,get this set to 1100 RPMs and this on mine, on a run, or a tank is wuth about 5-7 MPG, M
Darren Groves
Hi GT6M, The Graph isn't the best laid out as the BHP & Torque are set out a bit strange, but the guy that does it has earned a good reputation since starting up so I am pleased with what he's done and I can't argue with the way it runs and drives now. He could have spent more time on it, but we were both happy with were he got in the time. I'll see what the economy is like when I finally get my Speedo sorted/calibrated so it reads at least somewhere accurate, I can always go back for a fuel trimming session later on. The DFCO appears to be off at the moment, didn't even know it was there until you mentioned it so I can experiment with that soon. Darren
