daverclasper
Hi. bit confused here. Have read to dip new seals in hyd fluid. Also read to smear a bit of red grease around the seal. Also read NOT to get red grease near the seals. Any advice please. Thanks, Dave
poppyman
Hi Dave, i have always used a smear of red grease on seals rather fluid, i always pack the rubber boot with red grease as well...... Not had any problems it seems to keep the rust at bay Tony.
NonMember
Like Tony, I always smear red grease on the seal and inside the boot. I try to avoid getting too much grease on the fluid side of the seal, though, as I don't think it does any good there.
Pete Lewis
yes you can use red grease on the 'mechanical side of the seal' not on the hydraulic side of the seal keeps the exposed end of the steel piston lubricated and the grease is ok on the seals , other greases may make them swell as they become contaminated , the other 'white mechanical brake grease' is best left to just mechanicals not seals Pete
