Pete Lewis
cant find the engine numbers but changes of flat top and domed pistons would change the combustion chamber volume along with the telltale head gasket tab for recessed fire rings in the block face Pete
Colin Lindsay
According to John Thomason at KE10001 the engine was detuned due to the fitting of the 2000 saloon head; to increase compression again they used domed-top pistons. I've no idea what other changes were made to the head to prevent fitting to a later block; I think all of the manifold changes, breathers etc were common to all MK3s. NonMember
The changes at KE10001 were: - Common head casting with 2000/2500 saloons - Dome top pistons to recover some of the lost compression - Milder cam for emissions - I think the carbs changed slightly The thing that matters is that a pre-10000 head won't suit a dome-top piston post-10001 engine, or vice versa, unless the pistons are changed. JohnD
Or the head is skimmed, to suit a 2L stroke and flat top.pistons.
