AlanT
Hello! It’s time to refit this twin box system to my 1500 Spit resto (after 4 years of resto and 18 since it last ran). My question is should it be supported somehow in the middle? Aside from the manifold and rear boxes there isn’t anything obvious. Thanks Alan
Iain T
On my Vitesse I there is a strap attached I think to one of the diff casing bolts and at the other end a U bolt near the exhaust Y piece. The straps are available from many suppliers. Iain
AlanT
Thanks Iain, I’ll try that. alan
Peter Truman
On both my Vitesse and daughters Spitfire for the pipe there's a hole off centre towards the bottom on the front diff mounting cross beam to hang the exhaust strap from, plus the one from the engine rear plate/bellhousing, plus the rear ones for the silencers
AlanT
Thanks Peter. I’ll look for those.
chrishawley
Yup. A Spit must have a stabilising strap mounted on the bell housing otherwise the exhaust down-pipe gasket will fail quickly. Rear of center pipe to be supported at the left hand differential mounting. I used a rubber flexible mounting from a Metro but almost anything will do.
AlanT
Thanks. How does that work on the bellhousing? My downpipe is super close to it (couple of my) so no chance of a strap there. Will take a pic tomorrow.

This is a solid fixing to the bellhousing, leastwise on my Vitesse, a metal strap from bellhousing to an exhaust clamp to hold the downpipe rigid at this point. Regards Paul. Ian Foster
Alan I have a similar system on my GT6. I use twin supports off the diff front plate and also a support off the gearbox mounting plate (which was a faff to install). You appear to have a 4-2-1 manifold and a central silencer box. Should be a nice system. Ian
