It’s the 3 bolts on bottom of manifold to first part of the down pipe .He heated them all up and the first one broke will have a look at the other two

just loosen them off in situ or take the carbs etc off ??

He said that it is a pain in the arse and don’t have enough time to sort these out as they are filled booked weeks and weeks ahead and only a small area for parking in the yard

It sounds like the so-called "specialist" has a "can't be arsed" attitude to any job that couldn't be done by a trained monkey. That's pretty typical for high street tyre and exhaust places, these days.

As Mathew says, this is absolutely a reasonable DIY proposition if you can muster the courage. If you struggle to cleanly remove the studs it's possible to drill them all through and use bolts and nuts - my Vitesse has been like that as long as I've owned it.

if you replace the tuds or do as many do like rob suggested  drill thro and use a bolt  but always use proper brass nuts then they wont seize

like   https://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/brass-nut-exhaust-downpipe-mk1-3   or similar

you can get the exhaust manifold off and leave the inlet and carbs in place

access to all nuts is a fiddle  but its possible

cant remember its been a long while ago    but i would say  YES as it has to lift away from the studs IE towards the wheel arch >

it wont drop as the studs make a location effect

dont force anything if all the relevant fitting are removed it will be obviously  loose   if it doesnt move look for the hidden ones under the inlet

If that's a professional exhaust fitter then he broke it, he repairs it, and properly. You don't break someone's car, which means the exhaust is not fitted properly and may cause all sorts of problems, and then walk away claiming you're too busy to sort it.
