Paul Amey
Is it fair to assume that if I've found a slightly bent push rod I've more than likely got a bent valve?
Wagger
More likely to be too strong a valve spring or a valve stuck not fully open if it has been satnding for ages. Bent rods are not uncommon and do still function depending how great the bend is. You can check the valve by levering the rocker, or using a tyre lever under the rocker shaft. Pete Lewis
if you had a bent valve it probably wont ever close so a serious misfire bent rods are possible and does happen you dont know when or what bent it some contact or just agism or gummed up oilways on the rockers but bent valves are un common Pete

Thanks, I'll do that. 1 hour ago, Pete Lewis said: if you had a bent valve it probably wont ever close so a serious misfire bent rods are possible and does happen you dont know when or what bent it some contact or just agism or gummed up oilways on the rockers but bent valves are un common Pete

Paul Amey
I cleaned the rocker arm up and I can see that the push rod has jumped off the ball and collided with the body of the rocker arm. This engine had been stood for some time I think.
Pete Lewis
on replacing if you cant straighten the bent one take care you get one of the correct length if its jumped out then there is a good case of semi seized rocker on its shaft so its wise to clean the rocker gear oil scrolls and the shaft oil holes if you spin the engine over you should get a interupted low squirt of oil up the rear pedestal feed hole in the head you get one squirt with each rev of the cam shaft its not a full continuous feed do not be tempted to fit an external oil feed sold by many ...far too much oil Pete
Steve P
I had a bent pushrod in my Vitesse once, caused by the small screw in the rocker shaft falling out causing lack of lubrication to the far rocker which made it heat up and seize. Luckily the screw didn`t end up in the sump. Steve
Peter Truman
Ditto on a daily driver 2500TC in 78 fortunately I had the Vitesse in the garage and temporarily ratted the pieces till I organised spares.
