  1. Yes the stabiliser is an electronic version . The temp gauge is thermal . I think that’s what it’s called . There’s a thick wire from the sender to the gauge and no electric feed other than for the illumination . The gauge displays actual temperature and moves between 80 and 90c when driving Paul
  2. Mk2 Vitesse . Fill to the brim and the needle is just off full . Using the calculation of 6 miles to the litre x 20 litres , the gauge shows slightly lower than half full . Then as soon as the trip show approx 140 miles the needle drops like a stone and bounces on empty . I’ve got used to this now and ignore the gauge and use the trip to refill ie 180 miles go and look for fuel . Is there an explanation for this fuel gauge behaviour ? The fuel float is a bayonet fit Paul
  3. https://www.toolstation.com/search?q=Jiggle syphon it’s called a jiggle syphon and the ferule is copper Paul
  4. My Vitesse is off the road for body fettling and spraying so removed the remaining 10 litres of fuel using a new syphon . Previously I had one with a squeeze pump in the middle , consigned to the bin a while ago as the tubing went hard and not efficient . The new one is brilliant . One end has a brass ferrule with a brass ball locked in , though it can rattle within its cage . To operate insert the metal end in the tank and just jiggle the pipe up and down quite vigorously . Petrol will travel up the pipe then flow into the receiving container . 10 litres took about minute . Can remember what I paid , knowing me about £5 Paul
  5. I hadn’t thought of heater switch . That might be one of the offenders but I don’t think Triumph made heaters that good . Thanks for advice Paul
  6. Hi completed a trip to Wales over the last week and clocked up 700 miles . Apart from a wonky spade on the coil all good and she behaved well . The longer trips 200mile plus and the sunroof closed due to rain resulted in the cabin getting very hot especially with under the dashboard heat . Any suggestions what insulation you have used to reduce the cabin temp . I’ve covered the floors with Silent Coat . The gearbox cover is lined with SC . Any suggestions welcomed Paul
  7. Here’s a pic of my Vitesse on the Walled Towns Run in North Wales on Sunday Paul
  8. Completed the Wall Towns Run in North Wales yesterday . Stunning scenery . Since tidying up the wiring on the coil 😱. my Vitesse is behaving and 150 mile trip went fine . I can now Rev past the 3k mark and looking at the issue totally surprised I got as far as I did . Now need to get back to Suffolk and more fuel needed before I leave . All local stations are empty . Hopefully they will get the deliveries scheduled for today . I’m working on the theory the numpties can only fill up once . If Im wrong might take a few more days before I can leave . Paul
  9. Have you checked the Powerspark , same as Accuspark unit . Check the magnet is not too close to the electronic unit and the bottom of the rotor arm is not clipping the electronic unit . A giveaway is black dust particles when you remove the dissy cap . Lastly check the rotor arm has no fractures Paul
  10. Hi Doug , thanks for info . Did you use octane boost ? Paul
  11. I’ve got Gates Barricade throughout Paul
  12. Hi I’m travelling from the Wirral to Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday in my Vitesse and petrol supply up here is bleak to say the least , E10 is more available than E5 , Is it ok to use as a once off . It would be a 50/50 mix E5 premium and E10 . I have octane boost Paul
  13. I think you are correct , just researched and pretty sure it was a 4 door so not a Mayflower Paul
  14. New Chester Road , Bromborough this Triumph Mayflower following me in my Vitesse What’s the chances of that Paul
  15. Useful explanatory article https://www.classiccarsmagazine.co.uk/blog/features/ethanol-blended-petrol-and-classic-cars/ Paul
  16. Short test drive and all good . Need to go on a long run which will probably be Sunday with the 5 Walled Towns in North Wales . Fuel consumption is 29 mpg which is what I would expect on a long run . Looking at the wobbly spade it’s surprising I travelled as far as i did 😱 Paul
  17. Hopefully might have found the issue the positive terminal on the coil was loose . Check out the video . I have corrected this and cleaned up the rotor and weakened the mixture by 1/4 turn . Off for fuel and short test to see if she will behave. The only explanation for the wobbly spade is that the cable is routed and cable tied and perhaps too restrictive so with engine movement the spade got too much pressure Paul IMG_3539.MOV
  18. The correct door seals for the Herald / Vitesse are from Coh Baines . Pretty sure that are the same as the GT6 Paul
  19. It’s been raining most of the day so haven’t been able to check the plugs with the strobe or sparkrite . A break in the rain allowed me to check the plugs and dizzy Plug no 4 was oiled more than the others . The dizzy cap had small specks of of black dust on the inside Any initial thoughts Paul
  20. Hi Pete , no big hic up or cough . Feels like a slight misfire which would get worse if with more pedal . After Duxford I checked the plugs and they were a tad rich so weakened the mixture by 1/4 turn . CDSE’s ignition is Accuspark Paul
  21. Hi John got both . With the spark rite I assume I test at 3000 plus . The strobe is a basic version Paul
  22. Hi travelled up to the Wirral today from Suffolk 230 miles in my Mk2 Vitesse. Longest straight run for a while. Everything went fine unless I went over 3300 revs then the engine misfires . Doesn’t happen every time but more often than not . Bring the revs down and the engine behaves . Same issue happened on the return from Duxford last Sunday . With overdrive the speedo is wavering 55 to 60 at 3000 revs . The issue could be fuel but all filters are clear and running a Huco electric pump . This leaves electrics with Accuspark electronics and near new Delco distributor , NGKs . I’ve got a good selection of spares to work through and could it even need to retard the ignition a tad . Where should I start ? If your planning a trip make sure you know the stations which sell E5 Premium enroute as finding E5 was difficult . Good job I had a can in the boot . Next Sunday 26th going to Walled Towns rally in North Wales . Any other takers ? Paul
  23. How about a pic of the old starter ? Paul
  24. The spacer should be at least 5 - 8 mm . This is a guesstimate The shim being approx 2mm Paul
