  1. Piston Ring questions On number three the second ring is well not locked up but certainly doesn't rotate around the piston - why would this be? Is it ok to remove all the rings now as they will be replaced or are they still needed? What about the third seal rings- do they need replacement? Should I just remove them all to clean the piston sides? Thanks Aidan
  2. 🍏 - This is your first mistake! 😊
  3. Hi Replied on your other post, do you need the lock assembly or the lock barrels? Canleys sell or did sell a barrel set to fit one key so all locks are with one key only Aidan

Hi Alberto have you tried Canley Classics, or Chris Witor? It may be something you cannot get new, so also try someone like Wins International https://www.winsintltd.co.uk/ Aidan

    Gasket removal

It's on both aluminium and on the block so a mixture. The blade has left just a fine surface, you can hardly feel it with ypur fingerbut it's visually obvious

    Gasket removal

Recommendations please to remove old gasket I have tried various blades bit still have residue- what chemical is best to soften gasket / gasket sealant or another weapon of choice such as abracs poly disc? Aidan
  8. From front to rear these are the average measurements 2.309 2.316 2.313 2.310 I'm not sure how accurate my micrometer is, it's a cheap one from maybe 10 years ago Aidan
  9. Happy New year to you all !! I've taken some measurements but must be doing it wrong Iain I measured the diameter of the crank at the four bearing positions but results are odd compared to the range given by Pete above I took four readings for each Are you also saying I should be measuring the width?? Maybe I need to watch a utube on it Aidan
  10. Ha novice error I've pulled the Welch one.. oops but never mind! Are these the other 2 in the picture below - one large and one small?? Btw the four on the inlet/exhaust side don't have a ridge, is that usual? Ano question what's the best stuff to remove the old gasket material? Thx
  11. Yay I've removed 4 larger and 2 smaller plugs - needed a bit more of a pursuader That's all, but looking at the manual I seem to be missing 2 one of each size. Are there 2 in the back of the block? I wasn't sure if they were plugs or not.. Anyone have a pic? Manual isn't clear Thx
  12. Thanks Paul that's helpful I started in the middle! Will do better next time!!!
  13. Screwdriver in twist.. no chance, twist with screwdriver with spanner... bigger hole!!! I'm guessing these are originals and have never been replaced, or someone had put them in with loctite! Any other thoughts for removal???? Aidan
  14. Thanks Iain I will have a go today - I've seen they come as standard and then +10 etc IS this 10 thou of an inch? And what is the standard.to start with?? Thx Aidan
  15. Thanks Pete, I will have to double check but I'm sure the other one doesn't have those indents! Hmm Btw just to add I was able to lift the weight of the block but think it best to get an additional person to throw it in the boot!! Job for the new year
  16. Crank now out at last - so just a few final questions As above, short term what best to keep moisture off the block? What's the method to remove the dip stick pipe? Should I remove the core plugs? Re the pic of the exterior thrust washer - are the two indents usual? They were on the outside edge Remaining pictures Aidan
  17. Thanks Iain Here's another quick q, this morning the block was coated in condensation in the garage. It's not heated and moisture does arr8ve via the modern, so any solutions for this please? Thought of putting a bin bag over it but not sure that will work
  18. Well if I can't measure them, I'm getting closer to the decision to taking the block, crank and pistons to what seems on chatting to him a good machine shop in Newark. They have good experience of this type of work on classic engines and was recommended by the mechanic in the village Aidan
  19. Roger I do have a micrometer that measures to .01mm but what do I measure and what should the range be??
  20. Sorry Guys back to subject!!!!!!! Reading the manual it suggests it's a false economy not to change the main bearings They don't seem to be particularly expensive bit is this good advice? I can't see anything wrong with the current ones so far Thx Aidan
  21. Ok I can get two people to lift it. Probably easier than borrowing a hoist from the same person!! Cheers Aidan
  22. Do you think I could man handle it? or at least place it on a sack truck then lift it in to the hatch of my car? - otherwise I will have to borrow an engine hoist Aidan
