  1. Thanks chaps. Looking out for an overdrive unit - D type. I assume this is the same one that is advertised for MGBs on ebay etc.? Dave ===
  2. Hello. Its been a while since I've been on this forum, but its time to do some work on my gt6. I need to replace the clutch, and so need to remove the gearbox, and think I might put an overdrive unit it at the same time. When I drive it now it always seems that 4 gears just aren't enough. I've recently driven my TR4A down a quite a few motorway miles and overdrive was certainly a great help. So, removing the gearbox - I read its from the inside. Is that right or is it possible from underneath? And while the box is out, are there any other jobs/modifications that I can usefully carry out? Regards Dave ====
  3. Well, we don't agree. I am not arguing that models are unique. I am saying that I want to see things that ARE relevant to me, in my car section, and not have to trawl through stuff that I am not interested in. Its a different view to yours. And your speculation that TRR would set up differently, is just that.. speculation, and not relevant to my argument.
  4. Good stuff from buckeye, thanks. Its nice to read something definitive on this subject, as there have been so many opinions over the years. I'm sticking with the silicone.
  5. I haven't even looked at this forum for a few months, because it is a pain to find topics of interest about the cars I have. Sure, parts may be interchangeable but that is not the point. I want to see things about MY car models, and I want to see them easily, not having to trawl through stuff that may or may not contain things I am interested in. I really don't understand why this cannot be done. It used to be done. It is done on the TR site I am a member of, and I check that about 3 times a day for relevant posts. Dave ====
  6. Hi there. I need to take the cylinder head off to check the head gasket (or the block for cracks). A combustion gas test has confirmed a long-suspected problem. so,, any tips on sequence of things to dismantle before I get to undoing the head bolts? cheers Dave ====
  7. Well, the only long and soggy pedal I have is the tr4a, with dot4. My local garage (classic car specialists) commented on it, and so did the mot testers. Conversely, the two Silicone cars have great brakes! cheers dave ====
  8. I put silicone in my Herald, and later on in my GT6. Although some components were replaced in the process (mainly the pipes), not everything was. It has been 10 years with the Herald and about 6 with the GT6. No issues whatsoever. On the availability question, l just keep a couple of bottles to hand, and one in the car when touring. Alternatively, I have a TR4A, which has Dot4, and leaked all over the place causing very bad paint damage in the engine compartment and the footwell. It will be changed to Silicone when I get round to it. Dave ====
  9. I fitted the wrong gasket once, to a Stromberg, and it flooded all over the place. On first sight it looked like the old gasket, but closer examination showed a slight gap at one corner. Dave ====
  10. I fitted something very very similar to my TR4A, and they made a very noticeable difference. I'd recommend them. Dave ====

    back and happy

I would prefer separate topics. Does it matter if the same things appear a few times? Not really. Separate ones just make it easier for me to have a quick catch up with what is new for my car versions. I don't always have time to trawl through every topic to find something that is of interest. cheers dave

    back and happy

Hi all I only just realised the forum was back after seeing it in the Courier. Very happy to see it. I felt the club was missing a major part without it. I realise lots of decisions about how it should work have been. Bit surprised to see that there were not separate subforums for Herald, GT6 etc as there used to be. anyway, glad its back. Dave Herald, GT6, TR4a. triumph and disaster. ================
