  1. What ever they had originally I recommend stone chip as otherwise they seem to start rusting pretty quickly...
  2. wow that sounds a bit dangerous! Never had a single rail but this gear knob from a Spitfire 1500 shows how it should work....
  3. woohoo! But I didnt know the Powerspark site is quite interesting as they do more stuff than just the basic electronic ignition👍
  4. deffo a unit from Powerspark (they also do conventional magnets type) but should be matched to the coil as two versions available and that looks like the High Energy M5 for coils of less than 1.4 ohm resistance...
  5. The single rail unit the 1500 should have is normally really positive on gearchanges compared with the earlier type which has bushes that being much mnore exposed regularly wear out....
  6. No spring I know of on gear lever. In neutral it moves from side to side freely so you push it as far left as possible and forwards for first and back for second. Then you push it to the right as far as it'll go and forward for third with fourth being straight back. If it doesnt work like this theres something wrong, wear in linkage, bent components, poorly adjusted reverse stop?
  7. What did the crank bearings look like? If copper is showing through anywhere you need to replace asap or itll be a regrind as well☹️
  8. Yes deffo aluminium and think someone has been bodging it before. You can see in the manual theyre much chunkier than that...
  9. Yes Ive thought before that on idle the butterflies mech is resting on the throttle stops but at revs they are held open by the cable so may actually go out of the carefully set idle balance...
  10. Doesnt look like theres much to get hold of! You might be able to start threading a suitable size bolt in the centre hole of the remaining filter end plate or hook something in to pull it out...
  11. Finding the correct size washer might be difficult as dont think theyre listed by thickness. You might be able to measure yours and then get a supplier to do the same for theirs, oooerr! Doesnt matter if it sits slightly low...
  12. Are you using the workshop manual Iain as it shows exactly what controls the jet bush height and what you can remove to change it....
  13. Also I think any slight difference at idle passes into insignificance as the butterflies open up more when driving....
  14. Whats the epoxy for? Trouble with that surface is it could wear any seal quite quickly and of course is smaller than design...
  15. Trouble is it makes it more difficult to know exact spec like compression, cam, valve sizes, crank bearing sizes etc but then for many of us these can have modified over the years...
  16. And youll run a lot better after Pete👍

    Fuel spill

But dont leave it too long before another outing or it sulk again!
  18. Strange but nothing for it but remove flywheel. Bush has to be good fit in crank...
  19. That looks like it was worn and someone has tried to resurface it by grinding which of course will make it smaller and rougher! Could possibly be saved using a speedisleeve but god knows what size it is now...
  20. Does the crank hole feel bigger than the flywheel hole ie is there a lip?
  21. Ha we're getting there, just one last bit of the puzzle. 3.27 ratio diffs were used in all models of GT6 without OD (some did have it even with OD) and they came with 6 and 4 hole casings depending on fixed or swing spring back axle.
  22. Believe Paul is referring to the ventillation system box which can divert air up or down using the knob on the dash...
