  1. You dont have to have it balanced after changing a universal joint as theres a good chance it will still run smoothly. Usually any imbalance is in the prop shaft itself so if it ran smoothly before and you reassemble it exactly the same way a new joint shouldnt upset things👍
  2. Thats what it should be a short connector hose from the steel return pipe to the inlet manifold adaptor. I wonder if as sometimes happens the return pipe corroded and rather than replace it a PO cut it short and found a longer hose to fit. The trouble is it must be quite close to the exhaust manifold and have got hot....
  3. As Danny says that sounds like a universal joint (un cardan?) and their quality seems to vary enormously as prices goes from 10 to 100€ each....
  4. Good news! Any more information on exactly whats wrong with the propshaft?
  5. Cant here a buzzing noise Carba but that rattling, knocking noise as you turn the propshaft is not normal. Its an impact because as said previously you can here the propshaft ringing....
  6. Yes it sounds very much like a loose bolt on the reverse of the flange is just touching the front bolts of the diff or possibly the universal joint has completely failed but it looks pretty new...
  7. Yes thats a possibility but it would have to be a bolt in the propshaft coupling and still make the noise when both wheels are turned together....
  8. but how, if no access into A pillar, do you get the bracket back up and held in place while welding?
  9. If you get the same noise on both sides its unlikely to be wheel bearings and sounds like the diff. However the test you are doing is not its normal operation (one wheel stationary and the other rotating) so could you try both wheels off the ground and with two people rotate them together?
  10. Yes the spring sits in pans top and bottom and when off the ground the distance between the two is set by the maximum expansion of the damper. Need to carefully measure everything to see where the difference is coming from....
  11. oh its the bracket the pin goes in to hold the end of the check strap and its actually fitted inside the A pillar to protrude out through a slot into the door opening. Think its an unusual failure as the force is when opening the door and it tends to get pulled out which is why its fitted from inside the A pillar. There shouldnt ever be much force pushing it in so yes guess no access as never intended to need it☹️ Could a replacement be welded on the outside surface of the A pillar?
  12. What the spring is 1cm shorter when off the ground? If so then the damper must be different and there have been cases where spring lower pans are welded on at different places so you need to measure from the pan to the lower bush on each side...
  13. Is yours a different design then because as the manual shows there shouldnt be anything inside the A pilar?
  14. Wait a minute though its all inside the door isnt it not the A pillar? Heres inside the door and the arm that protrudes just attaches with a pin to a pivot welded to the A pillar....
  15. Do the springs each measure the same length when the front wheels are off the ground? If so I can only see that the shocks are different lengths (spring bottom pan to the wishbone bush) or the spring top mountings are in different positions....
  16. Theres some access with the footwell side cover removed but not sure if it gets to the strap....
  17. oooop two threads going here😁
  18. Trouble is trying to get it to spark with the dizzy cap in place as then of course theres no access to the points. However cant understand why it doesnt spark even off the king lead as it did before when Alastair tried it🤔Something has changed....
  19. yes as John says theres also light green/purple for the flasher dash light which does fit in with that location👍
  20. Believe its wavey bits towards the centre of the bumper👍
  21. Are those spacer washers standard Iain as I cant see them in the manual drawing but perhaps theyve been used to help the rocker to valve alignment?
  22. I got that as going from the brake switch item 19 to the brake lamps items 20 in the manual diagram👍
