  1. Red/yellow wires look a bit smaller than the the original brown so might tend to warm up a bit if you start the car with a pretty flat battery and then drive off. Even more so if they are run together wrapped to the ammeter but hopefully never be a problem. Have you got a dynamo or alternator fitted?
  2. or handling, or comfort but wedge shape, yes TR7 wins hands down😁
  3. This looks like the right item...
  4. Looks great Steve. Lets hope we get plenty of sunshine to use it in👍
  5. What a pain! Threadlock probably better than nylock but in position new one doesnt look good so threadlock the old one and get refund for the new?
  6. Hi, first I would check the two universal joints in the propshaft and its sliding joint (if fitted) - see if there is any free play rotationally and side to side. There should be none in the UJs and only a little in the sliding joint but even if there isnt the propshaft could still be the source of the vibration. What you describe is very typical of an out of balance propshaft and if its original then not surprising after so many years....
  7. TR7 good choice but might not go quite as well as the M3😲

    Fathers Day

    Sounds almost worth having kids🤔
  9. Very good! Is it the polyurethane or normal type gaiter? In either case please let us know how they last...
  10. That is progress and shouldnt be a major job to fix👍
  11. Thinking about it 0.1" will probably be too much Kevin as the rocker is roughly the same measurement from the pedestal to each tip so when the pedestal is raised the valve end stays where it is and the pushrod end will go up by about double the packing thickness. Obviously the less you go up the less of an angle from horizontal the rocker will sit at...
  12. Thanks Eric. I know superglue is a good thing to keep in the car for repairs to skin, hoses, tyre punctures and maybe even fan belts but I need something to repair small holes in the headlining and not sure if its up to this. Maybe that Sprue Goo, which Ive never heard of, would be better?
  13. The dynamos/regulators fitted were either 22 or 25 amp rated so this should be the max theoretical charge that could flow into the battery. Of course if upgraded to an alternator this could be higher...
  14. No Iain thats the shim thickness for the pedestals😁
  15. One thing I should correct is calling the rocker arm valve clearance adjuster the tappet which of it isnt as thats down at the bottom of the pushrod running on the cam, doh!
  16. I think youre wrong Kevin but the choice is yours. The document I posted shows that 0.1" need to be taken off an LC head to produce the HC version as they are a common casting 308351. Then it looks like your pushrods if original are 0.125" longer than they should be so with a bit of basic calculation you can calculate the pedestal packing required but your rockers are going to end up at a very funny angle...
  17. If theres still no progress perhaps something like this would help? It can be used by disconnecting the pipe at the carbs and installing it there the right way round so that fuel should be drawn right the way from the tank through the engine pump into a suitable container...
  18. Do sometimes wonder if shes right. Looks like 8" pushrods no longer available so that scuppers that idea...
  19. Well got to get some good out of all this time wasted on silly old cars (wifes opinion😁)...

    Magnetic sump plug

Also I wonder if the interference fit thread doesnt wear, especially over 50+ years, so the sealing is lost and it might be good to have a nice new plug especially one teflon coated😍
  21. In fact this from Chris Witor is interesting as its got the different head heights. The mk2 2000 LC had flat pistons and a head height of 3.4" while the mk2 Vitesse/GT6 (HC) also had flat pistons but a head height of 3.3". The latter also had pushrods 0.125" shorter than the first so it sounds like Kevin needs the standard 8" pushrods to get his tappets correct... head_applications_chart.pdf (chriswitor.com)
  22. Dont forget though that this is a head skim from LC to HC so could still be in range of tappet adjustment (done ages ago and presumably had correct tappet adjustment since) or maybe a shorter pushrod was used on the HC engines and Kevin could get these...

    Magnetic sump plug

If theyre a genuine NPTF (with the associated extra attention to tolerances) and not just NPT they should seal correctly👍
  25. But surely you undo the tappet to compensate for the higher position of the pushrod (if theres sufficient adjustment of course) and the rocker hasnt moved position relative to the valve? As I see it adjusting the tappet is exactly the same as shortening the pushrod...
