    Mintex Pads

Trouble is Pete as John pointed out to avoid complete confusion we'll have to stop talking about 1144 now as its MRM1801 - although only if its any good of course....

    Mintex Pads

I think you did the right thing as all standard modern pads seem to need a servo, and a high ratio one at that, to be acceptable in our cars...

    Mintex Pads

Yes working pistons make a big difference especially as if not they usually pull to one side. So you went with the Mintex race 1144 compound rather then the cheaper standard 1109 that you saw?
  4. Youd be surprised the accuracy you can achieve with manual tools and it usually just needs patience👍
  5. Thinking about this if you can measure that 4 thou discrepancy on the hub shim face I would have a go at filing it. Must be soft metal so with a fine file and a bit of care you should be able to get it in spec and then add a shim to compensate...
  6. Yes looks like theyre available so might be the way to go...
  7. Yes reckon the hub could be mounted in a lathe chuck and once checked its running true with a DTI on the outer bearing race mounting face a very light skim carried out on the damaged end...
  8. It probably will loosen with use but if youre worried you can slacken off the big nut with grease nipple a little and see if that makes a difference...
  9. oh no! Im really struggling to get my head round how its done Phil especially without the Churchill tools the manual talks about...
  10. An interesting thing from Peters photos is that the small screw on the side can only be for lubrication so I think a few drops of oil in there whenever the opportunity presents itself is a good idea...

    Magnetic sump plug

Yes everybody still very polite Colin but now quite often stationary😩
  12. As said, as long as you dont use brass ones surely theyve got to be as strong as the weedy square nut used on the clevis forks?
  13. It is tempting to change them though and let someone else have the fun....
  14. Proper motoring although I'll never complain about my Vitesse again😂

    Magnetic sump plug

Are there any good routes round London😩
  16. yes the lever has to be pushed upwards by the cam lobe so that inside the pump the opposite end pulls the internal diaphragm downwards...
  17. Both metal gears then Peter? I wonder what it is that fails in them, the input drive bar becomes detatched?
  18. Trouble is I take it the gears strip in the angle drive if the cable or speedo seizes and I dont know of any solution to that😞 If one end turns and the other doesnt I think not even worth taking apart and its straight to the black museum....
  19. Erm well Im afraid a locked solid speedo could also easily damage an angle drive - theyre the weak link (in non OD cars the cable just snaps) and not repairable. However as Pete says check the new cable is actually engaging correctly in the drive...
  20. It looks like the interior light supply wire has connector/s in it between the fuse and the fitting although no idea where...
  21. Was the old cable ok Paul? If it started to seize then the angle drive will have suffered☹️ However there might be a useful learning opportunity here - if your speedo starts to play up and you have overdrive, investigate asap...
  22. Yes Dave for brake and clutch item 10 has captive nuts welded to it so the mounting bracket 15 can be removed and screwed back in place (items 2) from above...
  23. It looks like the original problem must have been with the supply as thats the common thing so as no blown fuse the most likely is that it lost contact with its holder. Over the years the holders get weak and oxidised and will suddenly break contact until you move the fuse and then all is good again for a while. You can clean them, gently bend them to be tighter and even use a bit of grease. Now as you have the supply back on you need to see if youve got 12v getting to the interior light. Remove its bulb and use a meter to test each terminal to earth - one should show 12v. If you dont have a meter make up a tester with a 12v bulb and wire, put the wire to earth and then repeat the above test to check the bulb lights. Im guessing you wont have 12v because if the bulb is good any one of the 4 switches should operate it...
  24. All part of the fun though🤔
  25. Yes its not very easy and you can see why they went to retracting technology😁
