It's actually very very solid and heavy; you can just make out a second inner plate on the front that supports the brake shoes, and it's very solid and unbending. Cost me £50 per backplate! It's just the scale of things that makes it look thinner, as it's all larger than Triumphs would be, but a lot simpler to assemble the brake shoes. I used plenty of copper grease on the studs; you can see it on the adjuster bracket to the left (no adjuster fitted yet). Of course, the Innotec that John recommended arrived today, but it's now available for the front brakes when I start those.
Thanks for all your encouragement; it's great to be able to rant for a bit, then roll up the sleeves and back into the fray...
You wouldn't think a trailer would give such grief, but they do on a regular basis. I think it's something to do with with farmyard sh*t being acidic? I have never had an easy one to take apart. A caravan backplate on the other hand come off easy.....

Pete, did you put some money in the wallet before dropping it.

I have two to contend with - wife and daughter. The way things are done these days is to have about twenty items delivered to the door daily - Asos, Hermes, Topshop, Miss Selfridge and all sorts of trendy names, then try them on, don't like them, and leave them for me to return via the Post Office. It costs them absolutely nothing but I think the Post Office counter staff think I'm a secret cross-dresser.
Couldn't we do that with Triumphs? Uprated brake pads, wider tyres, adjustable suspension, brighter bulbs... try them on, don't like them, return them at no cost whatsoever.
I would stick to wearing your wife's clothes Colin.... Until she catches you of course.
Got to be cheaper than Triumph bits.

Oooooh... could be a can of worms, Tony.... this is the second one I replaced the brakes on, the other side was undamaged so only needed shoes and springs. Assuming the same ratio for the front two I'll need to replace one; that's £50 for the backplate and another £40 for shoes. These things are eating into my Triumph money.
We can't have that Colin can we? Can't the horse walk where it's going......
Bloody expensive things horse's, my neighbour has just had one put down
£800 for cremation........

Will you be doing the other three backplates as a precaution Colin?

That is on the subtle scale Colin, at least they are moving
Have you tried an impact screwdriver with sockets and allen key combo? Just need someone brave enough to hold it while you hit it..... Worked for me now and again.

How do you lads get rid of waste oil? I used to have a patch of garden that would outperform sauid Arabia but the wife has banned me from using it now
I told her it would attract wildlife but no.
A lot of garages might take it, around here a lot of them have waste oil heaters.

Remember it could be like the fuel tank drain plug; the plus stays but a large section of metal twists off round it. Try John's recommendation of heat first.
I have had plenty of fuel tank drain plugs snap in my career Colin, but never a sump plug..... many many tight ones. Maybe not drained enough Oil on Triumph's

I am intrigued, as this is new to me, has anyone ever come across flat packed tyres before? Maybe Ikea??
Some makes of tyres do go out of shape BW, the sealing bands tend to flatten together as they are stacked. So the guy who fitted the tyres was probably diy....... You can get an adjustable ring that fits around the circumference of the tyre which helps. The main way the do it these days is to squirt brake cleaner into the tyre and drop a lighted bit of paper in. The resulting small explosion inflates the tyre to seal it
Hard to believe but it is a regular thing these days with cheap imports.

Ok then, I have 11mm and 7/16 sockets, rings, mole grips and open enders so after my daily exercise (a walk to the sea front) without any socialising, I will get my 1, 2 and 4lb hammers out and give it a go
Use a stilson wrench if you have one Jeff? It will come out as you have the leverage.

Tony - I always did like the subtle approach...especially if it works.
It will work BW no problem
It won't work everywhere, but on a trailer it should i've done enough of them for the subtle farmers around here.
Tony.

Try giving giving the bolt heads a good whack Colin, not a tap pretend you are trying to knock the trailer off it's stands
The allen bolt might flatten a bit, but you will be able to knock the allen key back in so it wont round off. Don't bother with penetrating oils just hit HARD and it will come out. Give one a try.

The tyres were on my watch as warning that retreads still exist, i really thought they had been banned.... The tyre company itself tread X are fairly local to me and offer a very good old school service and the best prices around which is why i use them. Next time i go there i will ask about the retreads, but i suspect it is for the Taxi trade of which there is always a queue.

Just be grateful you don't have a home built by Persimmon Karl, you would be in trouble then
I know a couple of builders that work for them, and cost cutting is how the bodges happen in new homes sadly. Plus the usual rubbish materials.

Looks like theyre remoulds which has always made me a bit wary😬
Appologies chaps, i really must clear my watch folder out. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Brand-New-155-80-r13-Aptany-Budget-Tyres-155-80r13-Two-155-80-r-13-x2/183183098383?fits=Tyre+Width%3A155|Aspect+Ratio%3A80|Rim+Diameter%3A13&hash=item2aa690420f:g:na0AAOSwi0RbI7Nx
The others were worse than remoulds, they were re-treads no way would i fit them. The ones above are the correct ones. I will now try and delete that post. Thanks Johnny for pointing that out. Embarassed now.......
