I suggested that a while ago Ian, hence my question. Vinyl silk emulsion works great and it will tighten it up slightly. Just make sure you do it in one go or you will see the join.

You could cut the nut with a junior hacksaw, and then wedge a chisel in the cut to spread it and then it will fall off. Time consuming but will work.

Stale fuel will smell of turps or white spirit, but engines for road use will still run once you have got it started. It's just not as volatile so you will have to start an engine on brake cleaner a splutter a few coughs and off you go to the petrol station for new fuel a bit of smoke maybe, but it will run. I wouldn't try on a car with a "cat" or newer moderns, but pre "cat" should be ok.

Another vote for weber, but they are expensive. Mine was over£400 about 30yrs ago, but still going strong. I havn't bought a jack off SGS but have bought garden stuff, very large tool chest and a compressor all of which i have had no problem with.

I don't think the drill down the dizzy shaft would have worked in Paul's case. It never has for me in the past, i have always back filled them as i mentioned. It doesn't just happen on Triumphs either.

It was sheer bad luck Dave, I always use Mann filters and i am sure Paul will use his and not have a problem. The only thing that bothers me is why this happens??? If Paul had not had the filter conversion there would have been no way of back filling the pump.

my final test subject to opinion is to remove filter and turnover . If no pressure then it’s sump removal which I’ve never done before

Hi Paul, just back fill the filter adaptor. The last car i remember with this problem was Ford Granada and we backfilled it with as much oil as we could get in. The result was customer got his car back and i had a brew and breathed a sigh of relief...

Hi Chris, it will feel light at 80mph, my Dolomite 1850 does and that is a lot heavier car. So yes i would say normal.
