So Dynax it is! Do i just remove any flaking underseal and then spray this on the bare metal?
Yep, simple as that It actually stops rust as well.

Dynax S50 will do the job. Get rid of as much underseal as you can though.... Evil stuff.

Has this been on Triumphs?, only, not a failure I've heard of before.
Cheers, Dave
Hi Dave, not on a Triumph it was mainly Fords it happened on and usually the ones with the needle rollers, although have had the bronze ones go as well.

Hi Colin, are the pipes to the heater hot? Also if not run with rad cap off, any air will still be in the system.

For many years moderns have rarely used a spigot bush or shaft at all. I have always thought "is it in fact needed?" Maybe with Colin's experience its not really needed, i don't know. I have fitted them without before when the spigot brg has failed and chewed up the crank and the box and everything worked as normal and customers happy not to spend money on new engine and gearbox.

it will be the clutch splines hitting the flywheel / bearing bush as said they would need a careful look and grinding some off .
Pete
I see what you mean Pete difficult without actually being there, a bit a careful measuring should tell if it will work or not, or simply blob paint on each end of the splines will tell you if it is the splines.

Surely if the only difference is the length of the spigot shaft? Shortening it is the way forward. The one in Colin's photo is a bit "rough" to say the least but i bet it worked..... How long for i don't know, but will it be a daily driver and you have lots of hurdles to jump to get it perfect.

That is just down to p*ss poor maintenance Colin. That could have passed an mot over here as you are not allowed to remove the wheels to check pads. Plus if they pull up straight you can only put it down as an advise, bloody stupid i know. God help the rest of the car......

Same as Adrian, I just keep the water from the dehumidifier and like Clive mix It with ECP antifreeze.
Do I win prize for most financially astute?
Have you seen what it cost's to run a dehumidifier Scrapman? Room for improvement
Tony.

I thought a chemical reason would be it Although i have never had problem with tap water apart from topping up batteries and i use the water out of a dehumidifier for those. I suppose it's personal choice like tyres and oil's. So thanks Richard and Mark for the explanation. I will probably use dehumidified water in future as i have a friend with a damp house.

Due to a clearout in my Local Tescos I bought a quantity of the Prestone Antifreeze - see link for similar:
I didn't realise until I bought about 5 litres of the stuff for a tenner that it's already mixed, but seems to be well recommended. It'll be going into a newly rebuilt system so no mixing with existing antifreeze or water. Anyone tried it already?
I know a lot of people using Prestone Colin and for the same reason as you It's good stuff and i made the same mistake with blue a/freeze with the ready mixed (late night on fleabay), luckily i had some full strength blue so mixed the two and had enough for my cars. I did double check after with a tester.

Hi Richard, i'm with you on the anti-freeze side of things, but i have never used distilled water with it in over 50yrs. Is there a reason for it or just preference? I do have a pal who will only use boiled water in his Triumphs.

After you have started it Ian, are you taking it out for a run? If not it could be that what is causing the problem.
Tony.

I use the NGK equivalent in my 2500s and Dolomite 1850 Iain, certainly smoother but as mine are auto's i can't say much else really. I had them in stock and have nearly run out of the standard ones so gave them a try. Mostly used in Golf GTI's.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Very kind of you to share them! I've agreed the deal with the owner, Andrew, and will be picking the car up tomorrow.
Andy, the owner, was kind enough to give it a drive today to make sure all worked well. Wish me luck!
Looking forward to contributing and learning on these forums in the years ahead!
I am between Junc 16 and 15 M6. So a few of us on your route

yes get the followers refaced or the worn ones will pluck the edge off the new ground lobes
new have in general a slight convex face which wears to concave ,its the concave face that will wreck the new cam
even flat will be better than worn !! but never refit a as used followe
years ago when short of ££s i had a rattlely Chrysler Alpine went like a rocket but a real tappet/cam racket .
got a camshaft sent down from the Humber factory but could not acquire followers so flatted them in a pillar drill on some wet and dry
sold car all quite for over 80,000 miles till tin worm won ....still quiet
just an idea
Pete
Didn't all Alpines rattle Pete? They were a sod to set tappets on, so nobody bothered..... Comfy car though.
