To get the grease nipple out Jeff, use the tang of a file..... just tap it in gently and undo it.

you make me remember things i thought i had forgotten
if youre a cheap skate !!! a good rasping with some gland nut pliers roughs it all up quite well
but if kept in the back pocket dont Sit down
you need good bright shiny lead ,
I always kept the cap on Pete, i only had one reminder of the spiky bit. You must remember gluing a penny to a battery Pete? Or were they farthings?? Cue what the hell is a farthing......

What is it?? Looks like something from Doctor Who living inside!
It's known in the trade as the "black death" BW. Caused by lack of maintenance or crap oil or a combination of both.

one more spot you have some long bolts in there are the ends on the long ones making contact with the yoke ?????
Pete
I did suggest that earlier Pete, and there is one longer than the other in the video. Which could make that noise? Easy enough to remove and try without it in.

I have seen worse than that, a customer brought his MK3 Escort in for what he said was its 1st service..... I thought strange, it's over 10years old. Asked a few more questions and he said that the service was due at 18000 miles which he had duly done..... He had missed the part which said "or 12mths" whatever is sooner. Managed to prise the rocker cover off with a slurping noise, and you could not see the rockers at all.... just the shape of the cover. Cue new engine fitted

Run it in gear Jeff, Ist without the wheel on, then without the drum on. See if it still does it.

Are all the drive shaft bolts the same length Jeff?

That stuff is brilliant Steve, if you do the whole building in that stuff you won't have any condensation problems
Plus it will last a lifetime. If you are having a metal up and over door? Line it with the product i mentioned above.

I have gigabit Ethernet to the garage and a WiFi hotspot in there. I have the same to the shed with the model railway in the garden. But then I'm a software engineer by day...

takes me back to our Hunters/vogues with an alloy head and the same waterway problems of corrosion ,good that anti freeze has improved over the years
The Rootes engines were the reason I started using gasket sealant, with a preference to Hylomar. As I said before only had good results.

Pass me your glasses, Pete.. I misread that as: when bedding a lass an old glove filled with sand makes a nice soft whacker...
Have you been on Doug's other site again Colin?

If you are using steel cladding (walls and or roof) be prepared for indoor rain when the temperature changes. The condensation is a complete nightmare. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10M-Double-Aluminium-Bubble-Foil-Insulation-Loft-Caravan-Shed-Home-Thermal-Foil/353079982780?hash=item523534fabc:g:zlUAAOSwnMhewjgg you will need stuff like this to stop it. No amount of ventilation will stop it.

Hi Pat, i have used both these products and they are great. Should i ever need to i always will as i have never found a cause not to, so i say use one of them.
I know i will be shot down in flames by others...... But it at least gives you a fighting chance. Wellseal was the one used when i started my apprenticeship back in the 60's.

Don't take this the wrong way Jeff, but I am wondering if you are doing something wrong, or I am doing something different at least.
I have been belting UJ with hammers and putting the back in with sockets for years and not had any problems, well so far!
Just can't spot what you are doing different.
Same here......

You can leave it out till they arrive Jeff.
These are a better bet then you never be without a nipple to grease

Thanks all. Yes, the one in Herefordshireland looks worth a punt. Covered by eBay guarantee, the £30 surcharge is already in that price and the postage already covers the return of the old one. Had found a likely looking repairer in Manchester, but think I’ll go for this one. I’ll just check that the photos look identical to mine first.

Dave
For the £30 surcharge Dave, i would have a go at soldering the leaks in your old one. It is quite easy if you get everything nice and clean. You will have the new one to fall back on, or do it the other way round and use the old one as a spare.

Clamping the flexy hoses will tell you whats wrong.

I was wondering when this would come up Jeff. I only know a couple of people that have used it and no complaints so far...... I bought some 10w/40 for my John Deere ride on mower and now i very rarely have to top it up unlike with the Castrol i was using before. Once i have used my stock of Morris golden film i might give it a try. Should be ok being German???
