    Herald Estate

Thanks, I realised I had a copy of Mike Costigan’s complete guide to herald and there is a picture in there of the roof light. Let me know what you want for the light and see if we can sort something.

Thanks Colin I’ll have a look at Coverdale - did you pick the Blenheim or Wessex? I also need the carpet as well for the boot floor as it’s currently carpeted and looks pretty good just the wrong colour. Also i need to fix the interior lights as the dash or light at the rear do not work. Can you identify what light this is or any ideas how to fix the hole?

the interior is generally ok, theres a small tear in the side on the passenger seat but an easy fix, theres a hole in the dash plastic, Im mondering if that can be repaired rather than replaced. the carpet set is poor and needs a decent one fitting (and it needs to be the correct colour) Ive found the FS keys i need to order so theyll be here late next week. Im struggling with the fuel cap, Its a PJ Journee, and theres a code but its very faint PJ 047? can these keys be cut? Other option is a new fuel cap but in black. Oh and now I start the near impossible search for the rear side window seals - any ideas?

    Herald Estate

The estate is now home, time to go round the car and sort a few gremlins, get a bit of body work done. Headlights are like candles so relays first and then maybe halogen conversion, n/s side light doesn’t work, number plate light ditto, and the washers stopped spraying on the way home. Also needs to order a manual and some keys (only came with one set so I’m guaranteed to loose them) Now to start the search for the impossible to find spares etc.

    Herald Estate

We have viewed a couple of cars and have now purchased a relatively local car that we will collect next weekend. Im now on the look out for a manual or two, a new rear chrome over riders, rear valance (it maybe repairable) and the rear side window rubbers could do with replacement so i need to try and find a pair along with a few other seals. The bulkhead is solid but tatty so a repaint is in order. The car has a new dynamo, battery and control box so we will see how this performs before a change to an alternator. Now to sort the insurance.

Colin thanks for the pointers, the practicality of the car is what appeals, trimming wise we are lucky in having a good local guy who can make the necessary, I will check the c posts and seals etc as I’d assumed the seals would be available. I will probably be back with loads more questions once I’ve viewed a couple.

    Herald Estate

I’m thinking of getting a herald estate as it will be a lot more practical with 2 dogs than the vitesse, are there any issues with getting spares (I assume most are as per the saloon, exceptions being interior trim, exhaust and rear body panels). Are there any pitfalls or problems I need to consider?
  8. The starter motor is fitted, engine turns over a lot better, it’s a completely different sound (quite noisy) but the car started much easier.
  9. Ok I’ll leave that till tomorrow! Thanks for the confirmation.
  10. The starter arrived a couple of weeks ago, work and family have prevented progress but I have now started to remove the old start, it doesn’t look old but that means nothing as I don’t know where it came from. Is there any short cuts to assist with the removal, I’ve removed the engine valance, and can now access the starter but cannot find a way of removing the top bolt - is it a case of gear box cover out again?
  11. Given the starting issues and this months club shop offer I have just ordered a hi torque starter. I’m hoping this fixes the issue and will report back once fitted.
  12. Is there a simple way to test a starter motor, I can get the battery tested on Tuesday.
  13. Thanks a few things to work on over the next few days, can i fit a non return valve just after the fuel pump to stop the drain back? Ill get the battery tested, its a bosch and about 3 years old (fitted by previous owner). if its a bit suspect Ill source a new battery. Whats the downside to the hi torque starter apart from cost
  14. Its time to start to use the vitesse again, its been stood since lockdown last year, started very ocassionally but battery on trickle charge. Over the last few weeks Ive been tinkering but the car is an absolute pig to start. Once started it runs fine at tickover, but if left for a few hours it doesnt want to start. The starter spins quite slowly (checked its not a bad earth or the like with a jump lead to the earth post on battery) the fuel is getting to the carbs (after a few turns) the plugs are relatively new (from club shop). Once engine initially started the starter spins the engine and it starts fine. Im at a loss where to start - ideas and pointers please. (I have a feeling the valve timing maybe incorrect as it is set to 10 thou and in the box of invoices there is a receipt for a piper cam that states inlet 12 outlet 14 (Piper Cam)) I have been trying to find out what the symptoms of incorrectly set valves woud be.

    Brake Cleaner

    Thanks I’ll order one today

    Brake Cleaner

Just a word of caution with the sprayer shown above, I sourced one and it worked really well with Holts brake cleaner on its first use, however the sprayer then stopped working and I contacted the supplier, eventually I got a refund but I noticed that they had altered the item description to include only suitable for acetone and solvent free use. Anyway I’m now looking for a new sprayer that is suitable for brake cleaner (holts brand) so any recommendations appreciated.

    Car aerial

Thanks, I followed John search, that did throw up a couple of different suppliers. Colin that’s what I’m trying to avoid, I don’t want to buy another that doesn’t fit. Most suppliers aren’t interested in measuring the base. I’ll try Holden. the other option I guess is to work out how to replace the cable/plug on the current one.
  18. I need to get a replacement aerial for the vitesse, it’s fitted on the rear panel by the screen and it needs to have a 40mm cowl.ive tried Amazon and the dealer has no information. Any suggestions for a supplier?
  19. Colin I had an issue with my vitesse and blowing fuses / burning out flasher relays, initially it only happened when the car was loaded up, and I suspect it was a trapped or chaffed wire, never found the damage but I cured it be rewiring the near side indicator circuit. Just watched the clip you posted - I’m glad I wired in a modern fuse box at the same time as that looks risky.
  20. Clive a dual filament bulb would be very neat as the reverse is above the number plate so would be an excellent point for a fog light.
  21. Are those bulbs a direct plug and play, no additional components etc, is it worth dropping the fuse rating if led bulbs used? I’m just fitting a fog light on the rear so the car can be safely used over winter.
  22. Roger, I purchased a fibreglass tunnel from Nigel Hook on the tssc Facebook site, it fitted really well.
  23. The prices certainly seem to be going up, I’m looking for a daily driver (spitfire or something similar) and the prices appear higher than last year.
  24. Thanks, I’ll take the front spacers out and try that. I’m guessing that will lower the front of the seat slightly.
  25. Casper thanks for your post, can you clarify the spacer location - is it all 4 bolts or just the rear bolts?
