  1. I'm very easily missed! I hope the simple cheap fix sorts your problem🤞
  2. It still counts as a fix even if it was accidental! I did say to try the coil spade as it was the cause of my non starter. Iain
  3. We had the same experience with sheet metal presses where the base, two sides and crown were connected with large diameter tie rods 6-7m long. For the early presses we had to heat up the rods to expand then flog the nuts up. Later presses used hydraulic nuts, much easier! I don't think my Copperslip is the real stuff which is why I'm going to use the Mintex Ceratec. Iain
  4. It must be a very different experience working with large engines. Passing the 150mm spanner can get a might heavy?
  5. This badge seems to be short (ie no) supply at the moment. It's the Vitesse name that fits on the mk2 boot lamp cowl. If anyone has one in their box of goodies please contact me. Cheers Iain

Very true plus it is even more joints to leak! I've persevering with the Dodo Mat. Iain

I've fitted extra sound deadening Dodo Mat pads and albeit short journeys so far it is quieter. I phoned Phoenix and they do a single tailpipe version but he said its even louder. What he did say was he could make an inline 3.5" diameter by 12" long silencer which would quieten things down. He quoted an approximate £100. The deadening pads cost £24 which is cheaper if they work. I put them on the front bulkhead and might put the rest on the rear seat bulkhead to reduce tailpipe boom. Iain
  8. Wasn't that obvious? It's the same as some people's obsession about orientating the piston ring gaps, they also rotate. Iain
  9. The shim I bought from Paddock is rectangular with two holes for the pins. It may be that the shim doesn't quite cover the piston. When the Ceratec arrives I'll fit and see how it works. Iain
  10. The shims I bought are just thin mirror finish stainless steel. How will this stop a squeal? Or is it the due to the lubricated movement between the shim and pad? Iain
  11. I ordered a tube of Ceratec yesterday as I was curious and it was an excellent offer. Dick, did you lightly smear on the back of the pad?
  12. I agree, recycling old or original parts is much more satisfying.

Please let us know the mpg result. Did you notice any reduction in power? Iain
  14. A while ago I fitted mintex pads and noticed there wasn't any anti squeal shims fitted. I crossed fingers but yes the brakes squeal. I now have shims and Copperslip which I assume is fine but Mintex now make Ceratec. I can understand the issue with metal bound grease and abs but last time I looked it wasn't fitted to a Vitesse! Will there be a winner or divide the forum? Iain
  15. Thanks Johny, the Humbrol was top of my list but as you say it's all in the preparation. To start with I'll just degrease and paint and see how that fares. Iain
  16. My Vitesse bonnet badge has half the black enamel missing so it's more of a V**esse. Can anyone recommend a paint to repair? Iain
  17. Fitted a new mc/pedal pin and the correct pedal spring. Decided not to take pedal box off as 4 of the bolts are covered in underseal and paint which unless absolutely necessary I don't want to disturb. With the new spring it does feel better but not able to take for a spin as there are 40,000 runners passing our complex bellmouth!
  18. It may be easier to remove the pedal box than try to drive the shaft out. At least I'll be able to see what I'm doing. If worn the washer fix will work but it all depends on if I can refit with the shaft circlips. At the doctors now waiting for the inlaws to be covid booster jabbed.
  19. I'll post an update when fitted. I might also try and get the pivot spindle out (it seems stuck in even after I removed the circlips) and take a look at clearances and the pedal box spindle hole. These are things that occupy my mind at 2am. I do wish they wouldn't!
  20. I took a peak at the pedal pivot and mc linkage. It seems OK the pivot does have some play but it's minimal and probably in the pedal box. Not pi**ing about with that. The mc pin has minimal wear. I've ordered new pin and a pedal spring which was definitely not standard. When installed it probably won't improve the feel so it's a case of bedding in the clutch and having fun! Iain
  21. When I was deciding a friend had the same thing happen which put me right off so I too stayed with original. Iain
  22. Pete, I can see lots of options for my Type 9 box but the distance of the bellhousing to clutch cover and gb to end of csc must be the same to fairly close tolerance. The mc may also have to be changed or it might overstroke the csc. This can be 'fixed' by a pedal stop. Lots to think about! Iain
  23. Wife has first dibs today, she wanted to go shopping so I'll take a peak tomorrow. I think it's something I haven't changed as this dead pedal feeling was the same before I rang all the changes. The only culprit I can think of is the pedal pivot. Something else to play with....I was feeling bored after finishing the boot trim and cleaning the car ready for the show season. Iain
  24. I did think about fitting one and costed it. A lot more expensive than standard but that wasn't at the time the deciding factor. What swayed me was if anything went wrong or leaked it's gearbox out and with cars that are little used I worry about seals etc. In retrospect I wish I had fitted one. Unlike the lever method it's an even central push and used on modern cars. For your application it's perfect but as always you have to get the clearances and distance correct ie choose the one that fits and works! It's not something I need to do immediately but it does bug me. Iain
  25. Time to raid my Amazon account. Perhaps I'll find that nut that I dropped in the fuel tank well! So in order of tings to do, check pedal pivot and stick the camera somewhere dark🙄 Iain
