  1. Shock Horror, I disagree with Pete! Traffic now is far heavier than in the sixties and I remember the kerbs with boiled up cars. To make our cars fit for today's roads a powerful fan is almost essential. I went to Brands Hatch and parked next to a 406 Bristol who's owner said he dreads traffic jams even though he had a reconditioned engine. Iain
  2. I have a supposed hi something or other Bastuck rad but doesn't seem thicker than norm. My fan is attached to the rad and a 10" fitted OK but didn't cool enough and the 12" had no chance of fitting but works with the modified water pump. I used the Spal fitting kit. Iain
  3. Same as Johny I fitted the 12" High powered Spal which reduces the temperature very quickly. I had to get EP Services to make me a shallow water pump as the fan was impossible to fit without this modification. I must have the short wheelbase chassis version or a long engine 😂😂😂 I fitted Davies Craig controller and sensor in the top hose. Iain
  4. I have a sensor in the top hose and set the fan to come on at 95C. On driving the temp on a cold day is 80C and if hotter around 85C then rises if in traffic but the fan ensures the temp never hits 100C. Iain
  5. Interesting, I don't mind soldering. I'm off (with the wife) on holiday tomorrow so I'll do some more investigating when I return. Bay of Biscay please behave for the next few days🙏 Iain
  6. Thanks Pete the 200 series solves all issues including hands free phone. I could use my existing speakers but as you say not cheap! Iain
  7. Oil from the carbs can't really feed into the intake system. Certainly not to that extent. It really is delaying the inevitable which is head off. Iain
  8. A hole in the diaphragm won't stop the engine.
  9. To eliminate heat can you confirm the engine runs from cold then stops. I know the temperature where you are is 'milder' than Rhodes but changing the position of the Huco from where you have it to horizontal mounted on the 'shelf' next to the battery solved all my fuel supply problems. It could also be the Huco doesn't like engine vibrations? Whatever it now works.
  10. So there is pressurised fuel coming out of the Huco and it's mounted away from the heat of the block? Then it can only be a sticky float valve letting fuel in but not enough to keep the engine running? Does the engine start after stopping ie no fuel in the float chambers? Try testing by turning the ignition on for a minute to activate the pump and prime the float chambers then start the engine. Or when the engine dies have you taken the carbs off to see how much fuel there is in the float chamber?
  11. I'll take a photo of the rear and post. Iain
  12. A possibility, do you then pair my phone with the dab widget? Also what about speakers does the dab have an amp or can you get WiFi integrated amp speakers I could pair with my phone and bypass the period radio? Iain
  13. So do you still get the blow back through the carb when increasing throttle as per your video? Where have you mounted the Huco? Iain
  14. I don't think it's the valve seat as that would be shown in the compression test.
  15. I don't think any of the carb suggestions can cause the blow back at the carb. Bad ignition timing, but as reported it's been checked, or sticky valves or over tight valve clearances are to my mind the only way that much cylinder compression can be blown back through the carb. I assume you are still using the mechanical fuel pump. You could try running the engine with the fuel line to the carb disconnected (use something to catch the pumped fuel) to see if the pump is working properly. The engine will run for a while using the fuel in the float chamber. Are you still getting the blow back from the carb? Iain PS I had problems with my mechanical pump and changed to a low pressure Huco sited next to the battery. I did fix it on rubber mounts where the mechanical pump was but it suffered from fuel evaporation.
  16. I had a dodgy spade connection on my coil that caused a lot of head scratching before I tracked it down. It looked fine it was a bit loose on the male so I cleaned it up and tweaked it with some pliers and to date it's been fine........🤞 However why only the back two cylinders but worth checking. Iain
  17. I have a Motorola 114 that says it converted to mp3 (don't have one) but want to see if there is an easy way to receive dab radio. There are speakers in both footwell so I would rather use them and possibly make a blank to site my afr and oil pressure guages where the speaker is. I think it would improve the interior appearance if I fitted the radio consol but if its too much of a problem then option two is use my phone to connect somehow to the radio/speakers. Simple explanations only please!
  18. Surely it can't be a carb or fuel problem as with a single carb all four cylinders would be effected. It must, and I use that word cautiously, be an electrical fault on 3 and 4 only. Try swapping leads and plugs? Iain
  19. No it's fine, done that when I fitted a rubber lined P clip. I'm not partial to chaffing😬 Iain
  20. I agree, it's the best pipe for fuel and brakes. Iain
  21. That's a lorra back pressure. Does the mk1 rocker vent to each carb or through a pcv to the inlet manifold a la mk2? Iain
  22. It's head off time I hope you had a good breakfast! I only said to check the valve operation as it may have given you a good indication as to the culprit of the blow back.
  23. Forgive me for saying but it might have been a good idea to check the valves with the engine running before taking the manifold off? Iain
  24. Sorry for the drift, Aland certainly has an interesting history. Iain
  25. I have the same kit curtosy of Amazon! It's fine providing you don't want a guaranteed reading but just a comparison. My £1 bet still stands, what's the Swedish conversion! Oops sorry Finnish. Iain
