  1. Most parts are just sand castings so have a rough surface and never made to look decorative. For castings you would really have to remove the part and use a linishing and polishing mop to give a polished surface. However for me that would look odd. I use Autosol to polish aluminium/stainless steel/chrome trim parts. Iain
  2. I think my pin was tapered as it only went in fully from one end. It's one of those jobs that you need three hands...... Iain
  3. You could keep a lot in Oxford bag trouser turn ups!
  4. I think you are right and I urge those who are not current members and are valued contributors to the forum to please pause any action you may make. The forum is for a lot of us a great way to share our personal thoughts, problems, happiness not related to anything Triumph or cars. To that end it serves an important service. Yes it can at times be frustrating as many of us have, how can I put it, fairly fixed views but on balance it helps many of us. I understand those overseas won't use all the members services and think Adrian's idea of a small forum charge for full access could be of merit to all. I also agree with Pete's post about making club meets open to view. Every non member is a potential member! I do think there should be a members only area but perhaps we haven't got the boundary line quite right yet plus some of us may have started topics in the wrong place? Iain
  5. Fixing the boot lamp cowl I dropped a nyloc nut (a set came with the gasket) which bounced off something in the boot as I heard the dreaded ting noise then saw it disappear in the floor well under the fuel tank. I couldn't see or feel it. Time to buy a flexible magnetic grab! Iain
  6. How many times did you drop a screw......? They drop, tinkle tinkle into oblivion!
  7. Very commendable attitude. I think until we learn what is open to guests and only available to members some very well intentioned 'posts' will be lost. The art must be in starting the topic in the correct area? So non members are able to view the members area but not post? Surely the members area should not be viewable by non members? Iain
  8. Exactly! The push on star washers should arrive tomorrow and it will make it very difficult to remove๐Ÿคž. This the type of dished washer. I'll post a photo when it's installed.
  9. The push on buttons are a waste of time. No way they will retain the Triumph/overdrive badges. I'm thinking a star washer would be better? Iain
  10. Wasn't it egg in the radiator?
  11. Methinks he jests! Colin where are you?
  12. I also read Colin's pasta fix for his fuel tank. What day is it.......yes it's April 1st! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
  13. Will do, I bought the cowl from him. Iain
  14. I don't think I'm up for that, I'm leaving it St Tropez style....naked! Unless anyone has a bumper set they would like to sell?? Iain
  15. I would check to make sure you have a lot of disc rotation as the throttle spindles are lifted. If left from cold even with a Huco electric pump and priming for 30 seconds it takes 2-3 good pulls to start. Choke nearly full out and once started back in to around 1/3rd out. I have to leave the choke out for some time if stationary or the engine stalls. Iain
  16. My choke unit, the same as yours, leaked and the engine was difficult to start. I lapped the disc in tried to seal it but the shaft was very worn and managed to get a new unit. I had to change the disc as the new unit had the single row of holes. Stopped the leak but still didn't start well. It took many attempts at tweaking the choke cam screw to get it so it's much better. If I remember I have a lot of disc rotation ie fuel to start. Actuating the choke does also slightly rotate the throttle disc to allow air through and it's a balancing game to get it right. Another thing to worry about is the throttle cam, is it the correct one and/or worn. If its correct stay off the throttle and don't depress the clutch. Note the 8mm drill bit setting didn't work for me it was trial and error. Good luck Iain
  17. That's cheating but a very good idea!
  18. Bought bag of 100 NOS Triumph badge fixings off Ebay at a tenth of the piece price from a well known supplier. Hope they fit๐Ÿคž. Now I'm looking for 50 new badges to fit!
  19. Very true but Chris can't win. If he goes she'll say want are you doing here, if he doesn't she'll say you don't love me! Just accept defeat gracefully......
  20. It is odd that on the few days of the year I go off on car days or weekends I feel guilty. But then she's probably glad for a few days without me!
  21. My wife's is "is it time for tea" I just bow and do as I'm told....
  22. Well I've learnt something useful today๐Ÿ˜. I'll tell the wife she's always interested when I bang on about cars and widgets๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. I also have a habit of telling her old car models on TV programmes but she's never impressed.....
  23. Thanks Andy, I've seen similar on Rimmer site but couldn't believe they work or stay on. Doesn't seem very secure and easily stolen? I'll get some and try. I presume the Vitesse badge on the cowl has similar fixing. Cheers Iain
  24. Now I am confused, easily done. The Triumph and Override badges arrived next day from Paddock. Their usual 5 star service. Badges look great but the Triumph badge has two stakes on it not threaded studs๐Ÿค”. So how is it fitted? Surely not a small hole in the boot lid and pushed on? A clearance hole and stakes bent to retain? Both seem unfeasible or durable. Help please. Iain
