    exhaust heat wrap

I'm not a fan of wrapping exhaust pipes on road cars as if worked hard the pipe overheats and disintegrates. A friend of mine with an MGB V8 wrapped his manifolds and albeit he has a very heavy right foot the pipes didn't last long. Iain
  2. You will notice the difference in pressure. My blueprinted oil pump is 80-90psi when cold and 65-70 when hot at around 3000rpm and never less than about 30 at tick over. For the price an excellent purchase! Iain
  3. Martin, a job well done. I now have all the parts to put my mk2 back to standard. To Sikaflex or drill? I'll have to cut the studs off the panel so I'll drill using the gasket as a template. Iain
  4. I would phone Chris Witor to make sure you get the correct parts and providing he sells both get the shaft and oil pump from him. Iain
  5. I've taken my Vitesse to Stu Murrell at Classic Workshop. He is at Unit 5 Ringles Business Park Grigg Lane Headcorn TN27 9LY Mob 07762 199717 He works on MGs but has worked on loads of Triumphs and an excellent understanding of our cars. Note he is normally busy! Hope he can help, mention Iain with the vibrating Vitesse! Iain
  6. I think using electric bonnet release was a marketing and packaging decision. Its a Porsche so must be high tech and bowden cables are more difficult to package and in terms of production fitting time more expensive. Having said that my bmw has cable operated manual release. The OEMs make choices that are sometimes difficult to justify. Iain
  7. Good samaritan day yesterday. Coming back from Vitesse tinkering a neighbour said the battery in his Boxster was dead could I have a look. It was indeed dead and the battery is in the bonnet but the release is electrically operated! A quick Google said the fuse box has a pull out terminal to connect to but you need another battery. I said I would take the one out of the Vitesse. So connected and car alarm going crazy the switch still didn't work. Another Google and there is a get out of jail wire loop to pull and manually release. Only problem is you have to take the front wheel off and liner and reach up by the bumper. I did it and after a lot of peeing about released it. Would have been a lot easier if it was a cable operated release! German engineering.... He hadn't used the car since August last year so no wonder the battery was dead!
  8. No they're lightening holes to compensate for the extra weight! Cowl gasket/fixings and lamp arrived today. The lamp looks new, certainly the chromed pressing is 'virginal'. The cowl is stuck in a corner of a Royal Mail warehouse. Despatched 4 days ago and still in transit or on a picket line. The back panel is supposed to arrive next week🤞. I need to take a look as to how to connect the wires.
  9. To me! 😁 If its perfect a good buy at less than half price from the club shop. Via the AO (I'm now reluctantly on Facebook) I'm going to take a look at a local Vitesse mk2 to finalise position. So once the last parts arrive I only have to make the brackets and then measure 20 times and drill once! 🙏 Iain
  10. No it's OK I've translated into metric! Note all dims outside.
  11. If I don't win the Fleabay I'll buy from the shop. Auction ends today although I'm not experienced on bidding.
  12. No I think the diameter clearance between the rocker bush and shaft is only around 1.5 thou. Just enough to squeeze some oil out. I bought a 'new' unbushed rocker set and found the clearances way too big and oil pi***d out and made an 'ell of a clatter. Returned it and bought separate bushed rockers and shaft but you do have to get them reamed to suit. Iain
  13. I hope so! Returning the boot bling is proving rather expensive. Don't tell the wife.....
  14. I'm already stalking it! The club sell them for about £120 with p&p so 🤞
  15. I like the twin reversing lamps they look very tidy. I just need to buy a gasket and a club ali panel to complete the set then I'll be ready to drill😬 Iain
  16. Hi Peter, looking at the drawing the mounting holes in the back flange are at 4" centres but the front bracket is only 3.75" wide. Looking at your photos bolts pass through both brackets which is not possible given the narrower front bracket. Am I missing something? I really should find a Vitesse mk2 and take a peak. I'll contact my local AO. Cheers Iain
  17. I bought the bushed rockers and shaft and gave them to Charlie who reamed the bushes to fit the actual shaft. That way I know they were correctly matched to fine tolerance and not taking the word of a reseller. Downside is due to the head breathing much better you will probably have to play with needles as the standard 6AC get very lean over 3500rpm. Been there! Iain
  18. I used CTM Performance at Dagenham Essex. A long way from you but they are good and have done loads of 6 pot Triumphs. Iain
  19. You are right. The price seems to depend on what car they say it fits. The identical lamp for an Aston is more expensive! Iain
  20. Bought it! It looks like the best one for the money. I didn't fancy paying £250 for a new one from Holden and the rest look a bit tatty. Your help is most appreciated. Iain
  21. Thanks Peter, I can make that. I haven't used imperial measurements for 40 years! All car body engineering I did from mid 70's was metric. Iain
  22. I purchased the cowl from SpitfireSpares, I'll phone around for the bracket. I could make one as I have access to press bakes and sheet metal shop. Thanks very much for your help😁 Iain
  23. There's a lamp on ebay item 143929547934 which I think is correct Lucas 469. So I'll have to make the silver and black parts on your pictures? The cowl seals are readily available. Iain
  24. Thanks Peter, looks in good condition. No wonder its expensive if its also used on a Jaguar! I bought a cowl for £21 and bidding on an ali panel. Iain
