  1. Thanks Johny. I'm starting to disconnect the various cables to the instrument panel, I'll add taking off the footwell trim! You say the bit that has fallen off just crimps on so it may be repairable? Iain
  2. Help! Pulled plunger out and nothing attached. It looks at though it operates something buried in the A pillar cavity? It says Linread on the face. I can't see any way that cables can be attached.
  3. I now have a pass until lunch, the sun is out so it might be withdrawn at any moment!
  4. Thanks for your posts, I'm not that fussed about originality and don't want to pay silly prices for a door switch that is rarely used. I would also rather not use the self tap screw fixings. Once I've finished my chores allocated by SWMBO I'm going to the car and prise the switch out. Iain
  5. Looking at the wiring diagram it just shows earth from the instrument lights so perhaps all those black cables are the various bulbs and one from the tacho to earth. Iain
  6. Josef, I agree it may be salvageable. The plunger is at an angle but does operate. Of course it could be some idiot (me) when fiddling under the dash has pulled the connection out! The drivers side operates OK. All will be revealed when I plunge into the dark mess that is my dash loom.... Iain
  7. I've seen those Lucas switches looks like a good replacement. I'm not paying £80! Iain
  8. Thank Colin & Johny it's not often I take passengers so it looks like I'll have to wait or see if I can fix the existing one. I'll be sure to check closed length of any new ones. Iain
  9. I don't know if the ones on my car are standard fittings but the one on the passenger side doesn't work. Does anyone know where I can buy one or the correct ones? Iain
  10. I like the three combination gauge very smart. Tacho's look good but I'm sure everyone just uses common sense and ears for when to change gear.
  11. Colin, I wonder if someone has played with the connections at the back of the switch pull. It's something I'll be checking when I take my dash off next week to sort out the spaghetti. These cars have all been mucked around with so as Wagger said you do have to go back to basics. I'll be telling myself that many times next week..... Iain
  12. If you run out of 'oles I like the combination gauges ie oil pressure and water temp that are on the market. I'm tempted to use them on my dash to save having the bolt on mount underneath. Iain
  13. I'm a pint half full person so I'm hesitantly optimistic.....until it all goes wrong. I've already disconnected the battery. I learnt that lesson when I was 18 youngster and never forgotten! Iain
  14. Colin, I'm pretty sure this is a new loom installed by Jigsaw when they fully restored the car for the PO. Then they added front and rear spots, USB, map light, Trip master, radio (is the radio wiring part of the loom?) etc etc. Those should be easy to identify and put to one side. I'm going to study the wiring diagram in Haynes but be assured I will be asking for help......!! If not there I'm also going to apply some bulkhead dampening to make it a little less noisy due to the tubular exhaust manifold. Iain
  15. 🤞 I used Speedograph for a right angle speedo drive out my T9 gearbox. That works fine. However the speedo reads about 10% to slow so I can either order a new drive or get the speedo recalibrated. A new drive is quite expensive and can take some time so if JDO are OK I'm going to send the speedo to them and recalibrate. I just need to do the necessary check to calc how far out the speedo actually is. Iain
  16. I'm going to start sorting out the dash wiring next week. I took the tacho off yesterday to send to JDO INSTRUMENTS to check and calibrate, it seems to read high at higher speeds, and found about six earth's fixed to the screws that hold the tacho to the dash. I'm sure that's not standard Triumph fitting! This doesn't auger well for what I'm going to find..... Iain PS JDO seem to be competitive on price and a quoted a 4-5 day plus delivery turn around. Speedy Cables quoted 10+ weeks! I'll let you know when it comes back.
  17. Take a look at Auto Finesse website. I used their clay bar kit on my modern and it removed 99% of grit and surface marks. I was unexpectedly most impressed and it gave me something to do in lockdown! Iain
  18. Me too I'm at Canary Wharf E14. I'm looking for something to get me out of bed..... Iain
  19. For me the interior colour is very important. A nice tan or biscuit colour goes with most body colours and makes it much lighter inside. Iain
  20. Yes they do have a screen in the theatre. We can get bbc world, cnn, fox etc in our cabins but it would be nice to view as a group with the lights dimmed as I'm sure a few discreet tears will be shed.
  21. No, the rope might damage the paint! But if the entertainment director doesn't put something on for us to pay our respects the Brits will make him walk the plank! Iain
  22. Currently on a cruise ship and at Antalya Turkey tomorrow. I haven't heard what or if the ship (Oceania Riviera) has anything planned but the Brits on board want to pay our respects to Her Majesty. Showing events in the theatre would be good if not they have a Chappel somewhere. Iain
  23. Could this be electrical, not my strong point! Plug lead breaking down, plug etc? Iain
  24. However before I did anything I would splash out £20 for a compression tester and see what the results are. Make sure to warm up the engine, then take out all the plugs, disconnect the coil and turn over the engine with throttle wide open. Iain
  25. I would suggest to do it in stages. Take the head off and take a look at the bores. Any scoring or ridge at the top? If it looks good just get the head reconditioned and see if that solves the problem. Iain
