I can see me having to shake the piggy bank again but first I want if possible to find what the problem is.
Does your club starter have a ring so you can orientate it to get the best angle?
Iain
I don't have a shim! I had to fettle the flange to fit correctly as it wouldn't push home and had a small dissimilar gap at the bolt mating faces.
Iain
When did you fit the Luminition? Is this the first time it's happened? I had a similar lack of power situation and it was two plug leads that weren't quite pushed on enough (new leads and the rubber cover very stiff). They looked fine but on a drive with bumps and jolts they must have loosened and created too big a gap.
I have to say and I have my fingers crossed my Pertronix has been perfect in the 5 years since I fitted it. The Distributor Doctor only fits Pertronix, I wonder why. However that doesn't solve your problem.

I'm not an electrician but surely the feed from the ignition switch just activates the same type of solenoid as the one (awkwardly) fixed to the bulkhead so why should it draw more power. Those with electrical knowledge please supply written answer in simple language.
My starter is a nut n bolt job but as I've only duck taped the gb cover down easy to remove.
This sets my worry beads jangling.
I'll leave grovelling under the car until after the Coronation. We put our Union Jack flags and bunting up on our balconies today. The only ones in our 280 apartment complex and walking around the Isle of Dogs today very few flags. Just shows how very few Brits live in my area. It's as though it's a disgrace to fly the Union Jack or English flag. I find this very odd. In say Denmark they have a flag day. Sorry for the rant.

It's fitted with the standard flange but whether it's the correct unit is unknown. Obviously the cog is correct but the noise makes me think it might be water ingress which has been posted on the forum. As to over engaging that could be a reason but would that cause a slow rotation?
I'll have to take it out and try and strip it down.
An on going problem since I bought the car is the seemingly slow revolutions and screeching sound from my wosp high torque starter motor fitted by the PO. I changed the battery 2-3 years ago and that didn't have an effect so it must be summit else. I'm also fed up with cringing every time I crank the starter. I took the 'new' battery off a month ago and put it on charge and drew very few amps.
So for the while saying the battery is OK it can only be the starter, solenoid or earth? The starter still uses the remote solenoid. The nasty noise does make me think the wosp has lost it's sting!
Before I grovel under the car to see if I can get the thing out without peeing about with the 631 manifold any thoughts of any other causes?
No it's not tinnitus!

They will have trouble nickin' those on the boot but I suppose if you're not worried about the adjacent damage they could be removed. Did the mafia cause much damage?
Iain
Fitted the shims and Ceratec and had hours run out today and no squeal.......until I pulled up at my car park space!
I can do no more or in fact want to. The brakes still work which is the important bit!
Iain
First run out today and the clutch does seem better. More of a graduated pressure and no pedal spring noises! Almost certainly fitting the correct spring solved the problem as the pins were not really worn. A good spray of lubricant on all the pedal spindles and everything was very smooth.
Iain
As Johny said its a spanner or plyer job. I always use some Tippex to make a white line on the knob so I know where I'm starting on both carbs. Trouble is most time I don't know where I'm going or where I'll end up!
Good luck
Iain
PS. If you want to make sure they are even to start with take the dash pot off and with a vernier measure from the bridge to jet and get the depths the same.
A very good price, I paid Β£5.99 delivered which is about $11.
I'm going to fit the shims this morning and might go a spin this afternoon if the roads dry up.
Iain
I suppose a method of crimping. Odd that it's done after filling but there must be a reason.
A school mate used to be a toolmaker at Airfix making injection mould dies. He used to be really proud showing us the Spitfire parts etc his die made.
Humbrol has worked, I hope it stays on. I now have a Vitesse not a V**esse! The cowl badge is also much better. I'll give them both another coat tomorrow.

What find odd is I search for things on my phone and 10 minutes later my wife gets pop ups for similar items on her phone. I know she has eyes in the back of her head and can hear a pin drop at 20 paces but controlling the interwebby thing is uncanny!
