  1. The carpet from Paddock arrives today. Great service again as I only ordered it yesterday midday with standard delivery. I'll let you all know if it fits. I bet the club and Paddock buy from the same supplier. The rubber mat should arrive tomorrow. Iain
  2. Dave the last time my engine had the same symptoms it was running too rich. Have a look at the plugs and possibly lean it off 1/4 turn on each carb and see if it makes a difference. Iain
  3. So I've made my mind up I'm following Colin's lead and ordering some black carpet, James Paddock seem to be good on price, as well as the rubber mat. Next how to fit. The PO had Jigsaw spray the boot floor with underseal, I think he wanted it to look like a rally car, so the surface is not flat. I don't want to drill any holes for fixing and obviously need to lift it up to access the spare wheel. My guess is with the weight of some essential boot stuff the trimmed to fit carpet will not move? What to do about the seat back? Make that a separate part? Iain
  4. I do hope for everyone's sake both the UK and EU soon come to an amicable agreement for NI 🤞 Iain
  5. Andrew, what material is it carpet, rubber or Hardura? Iain
  6. The one I chose as I don't want to pay fortunes! Thanks Iain
  7. I agree, the only time I've bought new pistons I went for stainless steel. Iain
  8. Thanks for replies, I want the boot covering to be durable and also to hopefully reduce some of the din from the phoenix wheelbarrow exhaust. I like Colin's idea of a double cover. Living in an apartment we have to be ruthless with 'stuff' and don't accumulate any large things that could be useful whenever......the wife keeps wanting to put me in the recycle bin! Iain
  9. My car didn't come with a boot carpet so I'm on the hunt. Not sure if I want Hardura or black carpet and then it's which supplier. I know Newton's make both but any feedback or alternative suppliers? Cheers Iain
  10. Very true. I have a PJ locking petrol cap that decided to sieze up and spoke to Petrol Cap Company who said they supply a lot of resellers. Fortunately an overnight soak in 3 in 1 cured the sticking lock as apart from black plastic caps using adaptors no one makes nice s/steel or chrome caps for Herald, Vitesse and nothing used on Ebay. For everyone's info he said he has paid for a new die casting tool to remake chromed locking caps so we may hopefully have options for our small neck fillers. Iain
  11. As with anything we buy I think its more important to purchase from a reputable supplier. Iain
  12. I boxed mine up and sent by courier. I spoke to them about the refurb process and am very happy with the result. As I've said before I couldn't get the carbs set properly but now after refurb it's made it so much easier. I think they charged £220 for the two which includes bushed and seals on the spindles. Iain
  13. +1 for Carburettor Exchange. Made a great job of my CDS150s and a reasonable cost. Pete recommended them....he must be on commission! Iain
  14. Thanks, I need to have a poke around before I have any further questions! Iain
  15. No the shaft that the rotor arm pushes onto. I think I need to take a closer look...... Iain
  16. The shaft pulls up around 1mm so lots of float! Iain
  17. The reason why I would like to check it as I've had the engine refurbished but they didn't fit the distributor and the PO had the engine supplied by a company I do not trust. I've just refitted what the PO supplier fitted hence my concern. Iain
  18. To determine if anything requires further work on end float is a quick check to (carefully) pull up the drive shaft to see if there is excessive play? Iain
  19. What about getting the correct dizzy depth, is there an easy method to calculate the correct shims required? Iain
  20. I need to try harder, the Nexen still had 6-7mm of thread! Did you take your shocks up a notch with the Falken? Iain
  21. The 4 tyres cost £260 fitted and balanced. Cheaper tyre options are available........... I've never had cracked sidewall in a tyre before. I fitted Falken on a 1958 Alfa I had and they worked well on that car. Iain
  22. I had to change the tyres on my Vitesse as they were over 10 years old and the nearside front had cracks in the sidewall. I chose Falken SN832 175/70R13 and are a great ride improvement over the old Nexen tyres. The sidewall must be more compliant as they seem to soak up the bumps and cracks in the road. They respond well to change of direction and supposed to be good in the wet. Early days but highly recommended. I bought them off Blackcircles website at a much better price than ATS who fitted them. Vitesse 6 airbox

The one originally fitted to my mk2 has holes at the bottom rear as does one I bought off Fleabay. I think Triumph put the holes in the later models in an attempt to derestrict airflow to the rear carb? Iain
