  1. Probably not but take the pancakes off and take it for a spin. It'll run a bit lean but should see if they are the problem. Iain
  2. It does seem as though it's the plugs. I found Bosch W78 bought from Greensparkplug work much better than NGK. Iain
  3. We've all had many! Glad to know you've sorted it out. Iain
  4. 'No naked flames' does that mean it's OK fully clothed?
  5. Bob, if you didn't fit the spacer it looks like you'll have to remove and refit. My spacer was a snug fit and I had to very slightly ease it to make everything fit flush. Iain
  6. Hi Bob, The standard spacer ring is fitted with my hi torque (not the clubs) starter. The ring also correctly locates the starter. As far as I know this must be fitted with all starters. Iain
  7. I doubt it unless you park in the sea! Most of us look after our babies and tackle problems, of which there are many, as they arise. Some like me even cause problems by inveterate twiddlin'. You've reminded me that one of the side panel rad brackets has broken off, add that to the list! Iain
  8. My credit card is in isolation, yesterday my wife announced Armani have a sale on at Bond Street!!!!! The uprated Spall fan and in line thermostat seems to be working well but I need some hot weather to test. Finding a traffic jam is easy! If I fit an ali rad I'll just put an isolation pad on the mounting face to stop any reaction but as Peter says and especially if the rad is painted probably not a great issue. The new water pump is working fine, no leaks or noise. I hate to say this but another tick off the long list...... A post on our estate website informed us the area where we live is being surge tested as we have variants.....fixed or drop head coupe??? Iain
  9. I've just booked in the Vitesse at above event. When I master the technology I'll post the link! Only £4 to exhibit car which includes driver and passenger. If anyone in the area fancies it we could have a Triumph group hug... Iain
  10. No it's not atf its 75w90, no idea if that will work? Iain PS Just googled and 75w90 gear oil is the same viscosity as 10w40 engine oil.
  11. I forgot I have some atf I use for the Type 9 box. I'll suck out the 3 in 1 and replace it. Thanks for reminding me! Iain
  12. I just wanted to try a lighter oil to see if it made much difference and it certainly does. The slightest of acceleration and the readings momentarily go up slightly then reduce to normal but on moderate/hard acceleration it's around 11-12. With 20/50 hard acceleration was around 10-11 on the afr meter. On feathering it's now around 15-16+ which I think is fine. I thought changing the oil shouldn't make a difference to the afr at a constant speed only on acceleration by stopping the piston rising. If we wanted perfect readings then change to throttle bodies! As you say trial and error with a modified engine. It does drive and tickover nicely but I do need to take it for a longer run. Iain
  13. Latest news: Made a 3mm thick stainless steel fan belt bracket so I can now fit the new belt. The old bracket was way too long and didn't have enough adjustment. Changed to 7B's and checked needle and jet heights were the same and centred. I found with 20/50 oil in the dash pots there was a lot of resistance to the piston so I changed to 3 in 1 which is the lightest oil I have. The resistance was a lot less. Went for a spin today and there is a noticeable inprovement in the afr readings. Cruises around 14 and down to 12 on full throttle. Early days but much better than when I previously had the 7B needles in with 20/50 oil. Anybody tried British rape seed oil in the dash pots? Iain The Bastock cam made 112bhp and 120 torque but with a standard head.
  14. Bob, bosch W78 work well. Lots of posts on here about plugs. Iain

    Au Revoir

It was a toss up between an Alpine and a Vitesse when I was looking. I like fins! Glad you're staying and look forward to being bored! Iain

You could always go for 3 Jenvey Heritage Weber look alike injection? Would look great and be the best of both worlds. Not a cheap option but as said you'll get some money back for your PI system. If I were changing I'd go Jenvey Heritage. Iain
  17. Anyone got the box set for sale?
  18. A bit grim during winter, no sun in NI then! That reminds me to start game of Thrones....
  19. It's like most of us retired and don't work before 8.30am...... Gone are the days of getting up at 6am😁 Iain
  20. Pete, go to Burlen. Some time ago I bought two kits from Rimmers and they were actually Burlen with a mark up! Iain
  21. If you do use stainless you need A4 spec. A2 snap like carrots. Also buy from a reputable supplier, rubbish fixings abound are out there and can be very dangerous. Iain
  22. Mike, give them a ring on the main number it reverts to his mobile if not answered and he always phoned back. Excellent personal service, my modified shortened pump is working fine. Iain
  23. Malcolm, Welcome to the forum, if you follow it you'll see we tend to perhaps sometimes deviate from the subject but all in the best possible taste! Try Newman camshafts, ask for Ken Newman as he is a font of knowledge. He made me a hybrid for my Vitesse which works extremely well. Iain
