Do you mean the throttle stop screw on each carb? I would screw in the fast idle screw (choke) to give it clearance and get it out the way of the cam then balance the carbs by loosening off the throttle connector and screw in the throttle stops the same amount. Tighten the connector then screw out the fast idle to around 2-3mm gap to the cam. I don't know your throttle cable arrangement but if it has a nipple on the end ensure it's fully seated or your idle will be higher. Then give it an Italian tune up at Khan's 20mph.....! Oops sorry you're in Dublin so 30mph? Iain
  2. It doesn't matter where the heat comes from it still heats up the bulkhead, gearbox cover, gear stick and occupant of Herald variants especially Vitesse and worse on GT6 as the cabin is smaller. Iain
  3. In the todays driving the gearbox cover does get hot as you can't drive at 50+mph all the time. In traffic the heat from the exhaust, engine compartment and heat blown back from the fan all goes to not only toast the bulkhead but also the gearbox cover. Even with Dodo Mat on the inside my cover gets hot. It's a fact of life on many classic cars. I talked to a Jensen CV8 owner who said the inside is unbearable in summer. Iain
  4. Pascal's Law is A change in pressure at any point in an enclosed incompressible fluid at rest is transmitted equally and undiminished to all points in all directions throughout the fluid, and acts at right angles to the enclosing walls. Pressure = Force/Area You haven't changed the force so the pressure is the same. Iain
  5. It's easier with the black side panel removed. It's held on with a couple of nuts around the turret, screws at the front and rad. That's the way I did it as I don't have double uj fingers! Make sure the steering joint bolts are retightened properly as the steering function is pretty important...... Iain

    Annoy the neighbours!

No fuel leak? As to turning engine off I let it idle then switch off. Iain

Good work well done! It doesn't leak but am I right in saying you used ptfe tape in the float valve thread or under the aluminium washer? Just make sure none can escape and create another problem. As to tuning it sounds OK but visually the rear air piston appears slightly higher than the front. First make sure oil in both dampers. If you have a carb synchroniser slacken off the throttle joint between the front and rear carbs and adjust air flow using the meter until the flow is the same at tick over. Tighten the joining piece and zoom up the road for a test drive! Iain

I agree that's why I've always phoned them to make sure I bought the correct part. Carb exchange are excellent but phone lines only open for a limited time. Iain

I used these people who are very helpful. Carburetter Exchange 28F High Street Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire LU7 1EA For other enquiries you can contact us on: Tel: +44 (0)1525 371369 Email: sales@carburetterexchange.co.uk Iain
  11. First thought check plug leads are connected in the correct and positional order to the dizzy cap. Iain
  12. Did you have any transmission vibration? If not you are lucky. As said previously my car was undriveable over 45/50mph until I fitted the magic 3/8 dowel bolt! Iain

Am I right in saying around 3mm thick packer is a good start? Frosties packet must also work but if you want a low sugar option try Quacker Oats😂 I gave up and fitted a Huco low pressure electric pump. Primes the bowls nicely. Iain

If you take the float chamber off to clean or change the valve measure the float height which should be 18mm. Iain

One of my carb float chamber seals weeps. The carbs have been professionally refurbished so it's on my what to do on a boring winter day list. One of my car body jet bores is as rough as a bears a**e and I'm sure the O ring isn't sealing properly. Neither cause a drip leak or anything severe. Any suggestions as to a sealing goo or just replace the seal? Iain

I agree with Johny. Are you sure you turned the bottom jet adjuster and not loosened to jet assembly by turning the larger hex nut? However as said there is an O ring that seals the jet assembly to the carb body. Try tightening the large hex nut mot to much as its brass into ali. From what you've said enriching the mixture could solve your problem and you just need to sort out the leak. Your so close don't panic or get disheartened. Iain
  17. Can you install the air piston 180 degrees out on an HS6? It's a long time since I fiddled with an SU. Iain
  18. Or cheese grater your knuckles and turn the engine over with a spanner. Although on a 4 pot there must be more space.
  19. Hi Andy. Dropped easily with a metal clonk with the damper out? If so the needle centring should be OK. Both needles screwed in the same and evenly balanced? If so is it my favourite subject fuel starvation? Does it have a fuel filter and is it blocked? If the float chambers are 'just' filling when that fuel is used the engine will cough and splutter although mine didn't have the same rhythm! Iain
  20. Heavy with the damper out? If in it could just be normal damper oil resistance. Or someone might have used installed very strong damper springs. Have you any air leaks in the intake system? Good exhaust rhythm 😂 Iain
  21. Correction it may not be exhaust fumes but hot engine/oil fumes. I have checked all the joints and welded angle clamps to seal the 3-1 usual culprit. The pong is definitely coming in through the tunnel cover joint.
  22. A good idea! Sealing is a constant battle and although better I'm still smelling of exhaust fumes when I drive the Vitesse. It's an odour neither I or my wife like👃 I've been using gaffer tape but some fumes still get in. Iain
  23. Using Dodo Mat or similar and sealing the bulkhead holes has also reduced the fumes in my car however I think most of the fumes enter via a poorly sealed gearbox cover. Wherever the heat is generated even with Dodo mat my gearbox cover still gets hot but with the 631 exhaust there's a lot of hot pipes down there. Iain
  24. 3-4 years ago it was quite common to see a parent with a young child on the scooter footboard traveling at 20+mph obviously no helmets. Not so much now they must have all ended up in A&E. Madness and irresponsible parenting. Iain
