  1. Been looking at it. Been thinking of cutting it out. My driver door had rust showing on the outer skin because of this.. Not wanting this after shes painted. So will cut it out (maybe with a dremel), sandblast and put new metal in. Actually the whole door needs sandblasting on the inside bottom edge due to rust. And want/need to strip down the whole door to bare metal , weld, fill and prime it... all in 1 weekend ๐Ÿ˜…
  2. Ah,f... Fox needs more welding, passenger door has a rot spot. Ar the rear/underside/ back of the door. Need to look into on how to fix this ...๐Ÿ˜…
  3. Friend of mine sold his Spitfire SBW471T a few years ago. But the seller turned out to be a dealer and sold it on.. Something that he didnt like as he spend lots of money on her in the years he drive her. But since then the car is never been seen.. But its still on the road ! So if you own or know where it is.. let me know.
  4. If anyone got it and selling.. let me know !
  5. Hi all, Friend of mine has a TR5 PI. Just got the injectors rebuild etc. Had a look at the timing and seems to be running at TDC. Then a little other line is there.. When I look in the manuals it says that little line is 4ยฐafter. But manual says it needs 11ยฐ before with a strobe..
  6. It needs 2 front top ball joints, steering track rod end, new UJ on the prop, new UJ on the right half shaft and 2 new core plugs at the dizzy.. they leak Then general clean of the cooling system.
  7. Today went to that Spitfire again... It was indeed 180ยฐ out ! Found bathroom silicone around the dizzy base ! (Says enough) Got it right and started straight up. Went for a short drive and drive good (went to 4500rpm as test). Now to sort out the interesting suspension... UJ's are bad.. one wheel can move 1cm in and out ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
  8. Bootlid is now in primer to and looks very good ! Fitted my sevond hand hinges (now no play at all !) And seems to fit very well to.
  9. Checked it a few times. Even against my own car.. they are fitted right
  10. Need to have a think ๐Ÿ˜… Could be its 180ยฐ out. But they tell me it has run before ! Engine was previously rebuild by Ivor Searle, looks brand new under the rocker cover.. Ps, fuel tank is disconnected, now pumping fuel out of a fresh can. Fuel pump work good (tested).
  11. Hi all. Nothing wrong with Fox (my car), but been asked to look at another Spitfire (get it running and brakes. Done all the checks, still not running. Spitting via the carbs.. Checked: -Firing order : ok -at TDC, piston no1 up , rotor arm at no 1 lead on the cap, inlet and outlet valve the same anount open (as said in the manual). -Condensor renewed with a well known working one. -Has good spark on all 4. -as running on points, set the timing with a 12v bulb. -moved dizzy a bit both ways.. still no luck. -carbs cleaned + new gaskets Now I really got me.. just dont know what im missing.. Any suggestions ?
  12. More work done today.. Sadly no time for the bootlid. That will be for another time.
  13. A bit more done as it was good weather.. well,it was windy. Big dent on the rear deck and stripped the rear wings. Now to fix & fill the dents and tomorrow primer!
  14. Only thing to do is remove the outer panel lower part and have a look. For the outer and inner part (thats rotten on yours) they sell repair panels. Ive done it on mine over the new year holiday.
  15. I was doing it outside.. so no mask ๐Ÿ™„ But been looking into it. Also been looking at video's of how to do it all ... its going to be a few long days
  16. Made a short list of the 'to do's on Fox her body' .. -Bootlid: dent in top left -Bonnet: dent in right side panel + minor dents at the wheelarch + edge of the panel bend in. -Passenger door: strip fully, sandblast where needed, check for dents -Drivers door: primer letting loose at door handle, inner top edge not straight -Rear deck: strip fully, dents, maybe needs welding -Rear wing right side: dents between wheelarch/a-post/sill) + strip fully -Rear wing Left side: dent above wheelarch, strip fully -Windscreen frame: take screen out, de-rust,(welding), primer and screen back in. -A-posts: fully strip (doors off) -B-posts: fully strip, de-rust top and weld the top of wings back solid + cracks -Left sill: repair light damage front And much more ... ๐Ÿ˜• and then primer.. In a good 10 days its going to be nice weather. Maybe will take a day off to crack on!
  17. Wanted to test the primer, as this will be the first time that I will spray it myself.. Back in 2012 my uncle did it for me. Had some spare bootlid hinges (no Colin.. not yours ). Sandblasted them, put into zink primer and now 2k primer. All seem well !
  18. Here I dont have a garage with electrics.. So the plan is to spray the primer at my uncles very big yard (used to be a saw mill). There Fox was welded and out in primer back in 2012. But now the hardest part is.. Fox needs to stay on the road ! ๐Ÿ˜… No pressure at all ...
  19. More stuff bought.. Primer ! Today been good weather, so time to get some filler on some welded repairs. Wanted to do it the last weeks.. but been busy on a Porsche 911 ! (Stripping underneath etc) Sadly the next 2 weekends not very good weather on weekends to ๐Ÿ˜• .
  20. When mine was repainted we used dark grey primer to (what local bodyshop said to do and supplied). So going to use the same. Also whole car (remaining panels) will be stripped to bare metal and whole car repainted. Every panel has something. Must say the blue grey is very special to.. well what remains of it ! One side was in the sun and the other not. One side was like babyblue and the other grey. Back in 2012...
  21. Been looking to spray my spitfire 1500 in 2K primer/filler so that it can be painted. Now the bonnet and door where done at my work with 2K primer to. Some parts are painted in green zink phosphate primer. But the rest of the car needs to be done in grey primer. My question is. Etch or epoxy primer, is it really needed ? What is the best, as im using the car still daily and only have time on evenings and weekends ๐Ÿ˜… Pic of Fox. All thats green, blue/grey needs to be stripped and done in grey primer.
  22. I've fitted seals like on the doors to my wheel arch. Works great and lots better then those rubber 'flaps'..
  23. 7 years, 4 months and 16 days.. Thats how long ago that I started to drive 'Fox', my daily in use Spit 1500. On 30 sept 2013 and at (1)17.037kms to be right And the reason to sort of celibrate it is... Now it showed (3)17.037kms ! Its done 200.000kms /124.000miles with me behind the wheel !! Not bad going for a 43 year old Spitfire !
  24. As I used my Spitfire as daily and it started to snow and freeze very good this week... She did it well. Only very hard to start after standing a day in -5ยฐc ! Mornings after standing in a non heated garage, she does it pretty good. Today took some pics in the snow (got a bit stuck.. ) as it was 'International Drive Your Triumph Day' . After that noticed the carwash was open... time to clean off the salt. Incl cleaning floor edge, rear of chassis/suspension, boot floor etc etc. (People did look a bit strange sitting on my knees washing the Spitfire :D)
  25. Those are holes that held the block while machining or something.. I've done a mod ('Sparky Spit' showed me it). A bronze bush was inserted there on mine (made out if a bronze valve guide). As the gasket typical fails at the hole.. like mine did.
